Review of Koni Yellows on MS3

After 70,000 miles and dozens of autocrosses, I replaced my stock struts with the Koni yellows. Some of the comments I have read on these forums suggest that the range of adjustment for these struts is 4 turns (by the supplied knobs up front and just the strut casing in rear). Mine don't have that many turns possible.

My fronts from lock to lock go about 2.75 turns (each turn = 360 degrees). My rears went about 2.5 turns. Because the recommendations suggest that the fronts should be set at 2 out of 4, I set mine at 1.5 out of 2.75. For a sporty ride, the posts recommend 3 out of 4 turns for the rear, so I set my rears at 1.5 out of 2.5.

Now, the instructions from Koni refer to 1 turn as 180 degrees and 2 turns as 360 degrees. But those numbers just don't match up to the range of motion in my yellows. Is there something lost in translation here? I figured the ride would tell me if I was totally wrong.

The ride is nice and firm compared to my recollection of the stock ride (even new). The rears might be a bit too high for street driving, but possibly OK for autocross. I will find out how it handles in an autocross at my first race this coming Sunday. On the street, the car is a bit bouncy over small simultaneous bumps or undulations in the road, but the bumpiness seems to come from the rear.

Boy, the rears are a PAIN IN THE ARSE to adjust. They must come completely off the car and adjusted in a tricky way (until you learn it). I hope that I don't need to adjust the rears very often, if at all.

I am still on the original stock springs which seem fine to me. I am also running 225/40/18 Kumho Ecsta XS on stock rims.

My fronts and rears are about 2 1/2 turns as well.

Thanks for the review jheer, much appreciated!

What are other folks running in terms of settings on their Konis?

I think I ended up backing off a little less than 1 turn from the firmest setting.
