rev/speed limiter in the 3s

Can that be accurate??? 169MPH?????????? Thats insane

The only place that might even happen is on a dyno. There'e no way you could past the "air wall". Not with 160hp.

That's a question for the ages. Nobody knows... yet.

You really don't want to eliminate the rev limiter, though. It's there to save the engine.

doesn't a racing chip remove the rev/speed limiter? on the focus simply replacing the stock ecu with a racing chip (diablosport/ superchip) and it would remove the speed limiter. and yes i realize the focus is a totally different car.

It's because the 3 uses the new OBDII CAN bus system. It makes it almost impossible to modify (at this point). All of the controlling computers are interconnected (like a mini-internet) so in order to modify one, you have to make it work with all the rest.

I'm sure they did this for some reason other than to just piss us off but I'll be damned if I know what it is.

Because they could?

by the time they get the bugs worked out they'll be able to go "more multiprocessor than a PS3, bitches!"

that, and I'm guessing it makes things easier to modularize: Ie, cheaper to make parts to fix the ones that wear out more often without having to replace the entire ECU unit...

Or, just make something proprietary and expensive so that only dealers can fix it in 10 years.

there really is no reason anyone should break 90 on any street.

Well, sometimes that is simply the flow of traffic on the highways around these parts. Trust me, Michigan is notorious for speeding. Most of the time, the highway patrol won't even bother to pull you over if you're going 80 (speed limit is 70). Plus, this car cruises so nicely at 90 it's hard NOT to go that speed sometimes! (and yes, I've had my 3 up to the top speed of 118 a few times) :D

yeah i live in maryland and if you get anywhere near dc traffic sucks. also, in calvert county, maryland where i live the cops will pull you over for 66 in a 55 and they pull over at least 5 people a day. (that is not an understatement)
