Resuming Playback with 2014 CX-5 GT Tech Stereo and other issues

My point is that it's not a warranty item just because it doesn't have the functionality that you wished it had. That's what Mazda is saying as well.
If we give Mazda the benefit of the doubt that it is working as designed, here is the only acceptable chain of thought:
Working as designed -> The design is obviously and universally accepted as being flawed -> Flaws need to be corrected -> Correctable flaws = Warranty Item

This is no different than if they 'designed' a wheel that leaked and constantly caused the tires to need air. "It is functioning as designed" is not an excuse to not fix it under warranty.

Since they are apparently working on a fix, I would say they agree.

And no, the fact that that would be a safety issue is not a valid argument to disagree. I could just as easily use a leaky windshield as an example.

Those are your words. My point is that it's not a warranty item just because it doesn't have the functionality that you wished it had. That's what Mazda is saying as well.

If you find humor in that, I'm baffled.
I'm not surprised.

Trey - you are fast reaching the definition of insanity... "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

Not much benefit to arguing with MikeM. You'll never get anywhere, since he lives in his own world of Mazda fanboi-dom, where he is right and everyone else is wrong. Just give it up and let it float on by.

Actually, he's already there.

I don't know why it's so important to him whether the "fix" is under warranty or simple goodwill.

My understanding is it will be under goodwill. End result is the same.

It is not important to me at all actually, I'm just passing time with some friendly debate. I'm pretty sure I'm not the one who deflects from the main thread by bringing up all the side topics such as whether it is a fault, a flaw, an issue, a feature or a defect, but I'm willing to discuss any and all of these possibilities.

Hi I am From Mexico Monterrey and I recieve my CX5 2014 AWD (Bosse system) with the same problem

For me it is a mistake from Mazda is not reasonable, that this characteristic that has the old models, from now on is going to be diferent and annoying ofr the clients, I have the same problem

1.- When I connect My IPOD of 60G to the USB it takes 5 minutes to start, and always start with the first song of my Ipod, the random option doesnt work at all, i can see the paylist but the same is not funtional i have to select the song from the playlist and it doesnt select the correct song.
2.- USB drive has the same problem but the starting time is not the same but again always start with the first song, this is frustraring i just to drive my wife CRV 2012 and it works fine, it does the expected funcion when you connect and select the shuffle option.

I already read all the threads I hope that the correction of the problem arrives soon, i am very surprised that no one try the CD with mp3, I do it and work fine, when i start the car the songs beggin when i turn off, also the random option works fine even when i select twice to change also from folders, the way that the CD work is the way that all the audio system should works.

Sorry for my English is not so good...

My USB stick starts at the first song every time. The song is now stuck in my head. I hear the song when I am sleeping. I sing the song when I am in the shower. Help! Mazda. Help!!

I just emailed Mazda a link to this thread. They need to know that people are frustrated and they are going to lose customers over this. Its not that hard in 2013 to make/fix a head unit that can properly shuffle and resume playback on an iPod.

Hi all, I too am frustrated with this problem and as a new owner since April '13 of a CX-9 Touring with Bose/Tech Package I am completely surprised there has yet to be a fix for this problem. Aside from the great ride the resume playback on my IPOD is tearing at me. My wife's little ford '12 fiesta and my older Honda '2003 Accord both had resume playback when car ignition was turned off and random shuffle that actually shuffled. I am thinking the only fix I can think of is making multiple playlists with 5-10 songs each and choosing a different one at start so at least I have an easy way of playing something fresh every time. Still I absolutely hate that I have to do this and for IPODs that have thousands of songs its a real pain to click page down button as fast as possible so you can reach new music territory on your fav playlist and forced to do so again after every car off and car on. I alreadly emailed Mazda from my government email and personal emails, even used the form to web email Johnson Controls. Hopefully this gets fixed pronto. I really think a car reviewing website can add the pressure we need but I am not sure if we have those kinds of connections yet or do we?

You are wasting your time. According to multiple sources the stereo update is already under development. I am confident it will be released when it has been fully tested, is working satisfactorily to both parties satisfaction (Mazda and Johnson Controls).

Patience is a virtue.

That said, I'm glad I have the 2013 stereo that works how I want it to work, lol!

The issue is that car companies don't really give 2 hoots about the stereo system in cars, they see it as a selling point when they stick a "premium" system in there, but have little incentives to help fix bugs. Which is why updates take so long. Look at Ford with the Sync MyTouch systems, every car mag out there derides the system, and yet it takes Ford forever to put out updates, even though this was a huge marketing point for Ford to draw people in.

I have an aftermarket Clarion NAV system in my Mazdaspeed, and at first it did exactly the same issue in this thread: with an iPod, it would not resume from where it had left off, it would play the first track everytime. 3-4 months later Clarion had a software update that took care of that issue. That's still somewhat of a long time, but Clarion is in the business of selling stereos and certainly doesn't want their Facebook page littered with hatred.

Thanks but patience doesn't always get what you want and no its not wasting any time. In fact, they replied to my email promptly, maybe thats because Mazda at Ft Walton Beach is military friendly or they are getting tired of these emails. I feel like I am that guy from Shawshank Redemption and I am trying to build a library with funds from the state by asking my congressman every week ahah.

I'll take a faulty ipod control which MAY be fixed some day over a wimpy motor that never will be. LOL back at ya.

I would really like to see an ETA. Don't need a day, but would like to see a fix by this fall lets say. If they do not fix this issue, this will be my last Mazda. I have seriously considered trading it in for another vehicle in the same class, but I will wait for the fix and see how it works. Otherwise I am making 2 stealerships money because of Mazda's junk stereo. And don't get me started about the PoC TomTom nav. Really, Mazda, really ?!?

Would totally consider going after market, but I would lose the car settings and backup cam. Not sure about bluetooth mics/speakers and steering wheel controls. I really don't want to have to compromise.

I had minor complaints about previous cars, but nothing as bad as this which viscerally irritates me.

Laugh all you want but after riding stock motorcycles that make the same power as the 2.5L engine in a package weighing around 500 lbs. ALL production cars feel like they have wimpy motors. That's just a fact of life. Even small cars with V-8's are not very sporty compared to most street motorcycles (most Harley's excluded of course). Amazing what shedding a 2900 lbs. will do for performance, LOL!

When I want actual performance I jump on one of my 4 motorcycles. Even my least powerful, most gutless motorcycle will leave any CX-5 in the dust. Cars simply do not satisfy when it comes to being sporty. That's why I bought a SUV.

But even the lowly 2.0L CX-5 burdened with AWD performs more than adequately to climb mountain passes at 70 mph and leave normal traffic quickly receding in the rear view mirror. It's a fact of life that American roads are not built for speed or racing contests. Unless you take it to the racetrack, tow a big trailer or don't know how to drive a car very well, the lesser peak power of the 2.0L vs. the 2.5L is not going to slow you down.

So I'll take the stereo that plays where it left off over an engine that offers no practical advantage to me and consumes more fuel. For those not as fortunate, I advise a little patience, a software update that will increase functionality is in the works. All the belly-aching in the world will not make it get here any sooner.

I make a video with my problem a very bad video but it ilustrade my frustation. in Spanish sorry....

Also meanwihle I am making CDS of Mp3 .... I hope all the other security equipment works fine if I ever crashed, this is my first Mazda and I really love the Motor but hates the stereo...

Nice. My hope of a fix went from 0% to about 10%. I'll believe it when I see it...

I really hope someone at Mazda reads these forums. The best thing that you or anyone can do is send an email to MazdaCustomerAssistance@mazdausa.com. They did respond back to me, acknowledging the issue. They said they were working on a fix, but wouldn't give a date on when the fix would be ready. Hopefully the more complaints, the faster the fix. I am impatient, but I can wait a few months, any longer is unacceptable.

Edited for amusement of MikeM

I have seen class action lawsuits over less. That may be the avenue to take. Has anyone contacted a lawyer?

Thank-you for my morning laugh!

Sue-happy USA. Unfortunately, even in America, you need to show damages to win. And the fact that the stereo doesn't start on the same song that was playing when you shut down does not qualify.

U.S. courts recognize frivolous lawsuits regardless of how much you doll them up with tales of horrific "diminished enjoyment".

I suggest you wait for Mazda to release the update they have been working on and save your courtroom drama for issues with legal merit.
