If we give Mazda the benefit of the doubt that it is working as designed, here is the only acceptable chain of thought:My point is that it's not a warranty item just because it doesn't have the functionality that you wished it had. That's what Mazda is saying as well.
Working as designed -> The design is obviously and universally accepted as being flawed -> Flaws need to be corrected -> Correctable flaws = Warranty Item
This is no different than if they 'designed' a wheel that leaked and constantly caused the tires to need air. "It is functioning as designed" is not an excuse to not fix it under warranty.
Since they are apparently working on a fix, I would say they agree.
And no, the fact that that would be a safety issue is not a valid argument to disagree. I could just as easily use a leaky windshield as an example.
