to reset the ECU, do i disconnect just the negative terminal, positive terminal, or both? and for how long?

When you reconnect it, let the car idle for about 5-10 minutes (take this time to reprogram your radio stations, etc) then go for a drive.

so this will reprogram everything after my exhaust install? i think someone shoudl write a how-to and sticky it....

If you just installed a catback or something. Don't bother resetting your ECU.

I've never had to reprogram keyless...

could the new exhuast cause low backpressure which inturn threw a CEL? everything is connected and fine and for some reason i get a CEL after i put on my new catback.

well i let it sit and reconnected battery, turned the key nothing. doesnt even try to kick. lights still work, radio and all that turns on and doesnt fade out. wtf is going on with my car.

turned the key to "on" position. let it sit for 10-15 sec, tried to start the car then left it in the on position and after a few sec the alarm went off. after the alarm shut off i turned the key and the car started. its currently sitting in my garage idling as we speak.

It wasnt my intake it was the exhaust. I do have to cut my intake a little bc its rubbing the top radiator hose

Okay, here's the deal on the ECU.

Remove both battery terminals. Take this opportunity to clean the terminals and leads before the corrosion that is already there destroys them.

Flip on your headlights or anything electrical to make sure the car is drained of power.

Reconnect and fire her up. You don't need to wait a long time or anything like that.

Drive the car more aggressively for the next 100 miles or so. The ECU apparently relearns some parameters based on driving habits, so get it in while it's impressionable.

Already done sir, will keep it in mind for when I reset it again. Seems easier than what my dumbass did lol. But I drive it somewhat more aggressively, not to the point where I'm flooring it off every stop light tho.... Only a few ;)

I was using the intake as a reference... the ecu will eventually figure out that there isn't as much back preassure and adjust for it and the cel will go off. That's the great thing about a learning ecu. But resetting it takes less time so why not? I drove with my cel on for over a year sometimes I miss it but that's me
