REPORT: General Motors to kill Pontiac on Monday

Do you think the existing GM dealers (Chevy, buick etc.) would just pick up the service roles? Most dealerships are franchieses so Chevy will have to provide them something other than pontiacs to sell anyway, so they will get chevy, buick, cadillac or gmc

I would hope so. Chevy should have gotten the G8 and Solstice anyway (smash)

so what you're saying is pontiac closing is obama's fault so he should be responsible for the fallout? why is GM not the one who is responsible for pontiac being eliminated? i guess i'm just missing what this has to do with obama. in my mind if it weren't for the government GM would have declared bankruptcy months ago and the impact would have been much more severe

exactly,.,,.,

Wonder who's gonna do service on the G8's and the Solstice's.
i would imagine anyone familiar with turning a wrench can handle it since neither car is mechanically unique in any way. officially though it'll probably be either chevy or they'll continue to be serviced at the cadillac/buick/gmc dealers that formerly sold pontiacs

no, no, not at all, it's completely GM's fault for going bankrupt, i'm just curious how the Tax, borrow and spend administration we have atm (just an extension of the last Tax and Spend administration) plans on dealing with the 50000+ newly unemployed people...

Seems like we're racing towards the 1930s and the 10 year long 20% unemployment

Oh well...

Pontiac wont be missed by me anyways

only people missing pontiacs will people who thinks its a cadillac.,.,lol

Well Ford does own Mazda. They share a lot of engine designs and chassis designs. But most of the major platform designs like the original Mazda6 platform are thought up by Mazda and Ford just takes them. (Fusion = 6, Edge = Englarged 6 or CX-7, Flex = CX-9)

No the 6 platform came from Volvo , also owned by Ford.

In reality in the case of cars like the 6 and 3 and the fomoco cousins Ford Mazda and Volvo all worked very closely and contributed nearly equaly.

I think thats a much better strategy than GM's approach.

I personaly cant wait to get a set of Volvo S60 R brakes on my mazda :)

Yes, it will be like the Oldsmobiles, still serviced at GM dealerships...

Your vehicle is part of the GM family. Oldsmobile drivers will continue to receive the highest service standards at participating GM dealers.
