Replacing the Third-eye trim

Hello,

While backing out of my garage, with my 2012 CX-9, I ripped off the lip (I'm not sure what it is called) at the top of the rear window where the third-eye and wiper fluid are.

It is pretty much intact, but there was a moulding strip(?) that came off with it. Of course, the spots where the fasteners/clips hook onto are broken. I don't see how I can place this piece back onto the car without having it replaced.

Would you have any suggestions about getting this fixed/replaced? I'm concerned that going to a local body shop will prove very expensive. Is it something I can do myself?

Thank you.

chance72,

Thank you for that information. Yes. It is the spoiler. I wasn't really sure if it was considered the spoiler or not.

Straight out of the workshop manual for 2013:

REAR SPOILER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the liftgate upper trim. (See LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Disconnect the high-mount brake light connector.
4. Remove the nuts.

5. Detach the clips and remove the rear spoiler.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal.

LIFTGATE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. Detach tabs A, clips B, and pin C by pulling them in the direction of the arrow.

2. Remove the liftgate upper trim.

Wow! Thank you for the great information.
But since the spoiler was ripped off (by my stupidity) and not gently removed, there are broken clips and tabs. Also, the ends of the spoiler are broken. Still, it appears mostly a single piece.

Assuming I cannot get the spoiler back on (because of the broken parts tabs/clips) what would the next best thing to do be? Get a replacement spoiler from the link you provided (or one similar)? What are the chances of getting it from a junk yard or body shop?

Thank you.

You're welcome. Yeah, I do believe the spoiler is one piece. And sorry, I only found that Jim Ellis Mazda Parts site from doing a google search, so I can't give an opinion about it.

Parts yard could certainly be an option for you. And if you have to remove the part yourself, at least now you'll know how :D. Biggest challenge would be to find one in your color (or you'll have to get it painted). Also not sure if it would need to be from the exact same year.

You should at least call or visit the parts department at your nearest Mazda dealer to see how much the parts are from them. Maybe you can also ask them if the spoiler from an older year would fit yours

Great! I really appreciate the information and the time you took to respond. This is a big help, and potential money-saver if I shop around enough.
