Replacing Bose sub

Replacing my HU soon and have a pretty simple question for you guys. The mids and highs are fine for now so I'm happy to let the Bose amp power those. As far as a separate amp and sub for the lows, is it as simple as running RCA cables from the HU to the amp along with power, ground and remote ?

I'll most likely replace the factory speakers at some point, but I guess the Bose wiring causes all sorts of headaches

Thanks

Please show up pics of this DIY project.

Most of us don't bother with upgrading the HU especially since we paid for the option of the better than stock sound system by going for the Bose. Even with the basic stock, it's been a nightmare for many when [trying] to upgrade.

Everything is so tightly integrated with the HU such as navigation and audio controls (and in the steering wheel controls) we risk losing functionality and the appearance is something that rarely ever looks good unless you invest a lot of money and/or time.

What I'm doing isn't really special, but will take pictures. I don't have navigation so that won't be a issue, I use HERE maps on my phone and it's the best I've found, even vs Garmin. I absolutely hate that our cars don't display a name on the caller ID, just a number. Also, I like the added benefits of a aftermarket headunit, such as USB input and HD radio. I plan on a backup camera and our existing HU just don't offer these features. Also, I'm not a bass-head by any means, but the Bose is just weak. I will keep my steering wheel controls and factory amp connections using the RP4-MZ11 from PAC audio. At some point I will replace all speakers and Bose amp with something a bit better. I didn't buy the car for the Bose system, it just happened to be included, lol.

I hear ya. So many advantages of aftermarket units. The automakers are doing their darnest to make it difficult to swap out the stock HU and replace it with an aftermarket. I miss the old days. Good to her about HERE maps. I have not heard of them, will look them up.

Keep us posted on how you make out. As a suggestion, I'd email Crutchfield who, I believe sell a lot of the parts you would need to hook this all up and see what they say what will work and what won't.

All the best with your project. :)

Crutch field is almost useless. They steering me towards 6x8 since its drop in replacement. After research, we can use 6.5 with spacers and adapters.

2011 3, I don't want to lose to trunk space so I need to be able to remove the sub. I originally planned on mounting the amps under the seats so wouldn't need the false floor.

Here's what I'm looking at

Pioneer AVX-5700 BHS HU

Kappa 6.5 for front - 90 RMS

Infinity Reference for rear - 100 RMS

Alpine 12" Type R - 600 RMS

Kenwood 9106D Mono - 1000 RMS @ 2 ohms

Kenwood 8406 4 Channel - 100 RMS x 4 @ 2 ohms

Of course, this can change a 100 times before I buy. I'm not dead set on anything. I'm not in the loud crowd, I want really good clarity though. JL is definitely out of my price range, if I built a system with their components, the system would be worth more than the car.

Now I just chose these cause I know the name, don't know of their quality.
