Anyone know where i can buy another ecu? I am really interested in getting the cpe reflash but cant be without a car for a few days while I ship the ECU to them. I was hoping to get a spare ecu send it to them and get it flashed and then throw it on my car and then have the stock ecu for dealer visits...

lol the stock ECU is almost 800. your better off just driving to CPE from boston. its not THAT far. maby 6 hours but certainly worth 800 bucks.

U might wanna take a look at www.car-part.com but even if u had a spare ecu, i think Mazda needs to pgm it and even then i'm not sure if u can just switch back & forth?? Let us know though if u find that answer.

so pmi'd is specific to each car? Not too sure what that means sorry for being a noob : )

Yes, on "newer" cars with theft deterence, the ECU has an imbedded code that allows it to "work" with the keys coded with the ECU number encoded to it at OEM install. If you remove your ECU and install it into another car, it will not work until it receives the key codes for that car or you take the keys with it and change the lock cylinder. To load new keys, you must have the OEM supplied number for that ECU. If you "know" someone at a Mazda dealer, they MAY be able to get your ECU code from Mazda if they have the VIN number....
