Replacement antenna for 1999 sedan

Standard disclaimer: I have searched for this information and found only some dead ends of threads several years old. Maybe things have changed since, maybe not.

Question: Is there an OEM or aftermarket replacement for the radio antenna on a 1999 LX sedan that offers improved reception performance and/or is shorter than the original? This would be an antenna that mounts in the existing location at the top of the driver's A-pillar.

I like to leave my antenna halfway down, but that impairs reception of some of the stations I like to listen to.

get a signal amplifier

I could, but I'd be concerned that it would just raise the noise floor. Any radios I have seen with "local/distant" switches do just that. Would a "quality" booster make a difference. Is there such a thing?

Anyone have any experience with the film antennas like the Metra 44-UAGB10 or similar?
