Removing the VTCS from a 2002 miata

I'm finally going to swap a 2002 engine into my 91 miata. I will be using a TEC 3 so control issues will not be a problem. I was thinking of leaving the VTCS in the intake manifold and letting it run independent of the TEC 3 but upon doing research I have found out that it is different from the VICS in the 99-00 and I would do better to remove it. I want to find out if anyone has already remove the VTCS from their 02 or newer miata and what the results were. I'm hoping someone with a stand alone ECU has done this mod and could give me some insight.
