Removing just 1 resonator?

3 MPS Areo
Just got my MS3 - or 3 MPS here in the UK (with Aero kit). After a few other hot hatches the engine in the MPS is a proper old school big turbo beast, I find the steering is a bit detached but the torque steer makes it exciting, even on a straight!

Anyway, I want to remove just one resonator as the youtube clips of both being removed are just a bit too loud for a fella of my age. Thinking of the large one after the 90deg bend and before the muffler - anyone done this and have they posted a clip anywhere?

Also where's the other one? A quick look on the drive revealed only the large one and a little cat looking thing on the 90deg bend.

The factory exhaust configuration on a 2007-2009 MPS is primary catalyst in the downpipe, secondary catalyst in the pipe aft of that, large resonator on the straight behind the catalyst, single resonator on the jog, muffler aft of the subframe. Our aftermarket catback exhaust runs twin resonators (different from stock but in stock locations with no muffler on the tailpipe) and sounds quite nice. Might be another option if you're set on modifying.

Here's ours: http://www.corksport.com/corksport-power-series-mazdaspeed-3-exhaust-system.html

And a few YouTube clips:

What about a straight test pipe in place of the second cat? You'd actually pick up a little power gain with the slight increase in exhaust volume. Just a thought, if you can do that in UK.

Reso delete will give you an different sound but no power gain. Nor would a CBE change. Stock CBE flows extremely well -- better that the exhaust flow rate out of the K04 turbo.

catless dp/rp w/o 2 resonators = LOUD

Yes, but I didn't think OP or anyone was suggesting that he do that. I think OP was just looking for a little more sound and I was suggesting he could keep all the resos and put in a test pipe, get a little change in sound and some power while he was at it.

I know a bit about what a catless dp/rp combo does sound like, even with the stock CBE (see sig) and put in a third reso to tame droning.

OP will not have that issue with just a test pipe into the stock CBE.

OP, what say ye?

I'm going to be getting a resonator removed today at the local exhaust shop just to make the car sound a bit meaner.

Are both of the resonators the same size? Anyone else recommend which one to remove? If not, I'm probably just going to remove the biggest if they're different sizes.

Just had the smaller resonator replaced in the end and it's just right for what I was looking for. Louder than stock with a really deep 'breath' kind of sound but not to obvious. It's how it should have been as stock.

There's a big difference in the size of the resonators so I guess they'll be a marked difference in the loudness of removing the big 'un.

I'll post a movie when I get some daylight time to film it.

How much did you guys pay if you don't mind me asking? I've checked a couple of places and had quotes from $50-$85 for one; closer to $50 seems about right to me.
