IMO, I say keep the post counts.

However, I think a more, impartial, poll should be hosted. Options such as "God no, they are my life!" and "Touch my posts and die!" for the 'yea's versus the "Please do, they are useless." and "Remove them from thread views, but still seen in user cp." for the nea's aren't very comparitive. A simple yes or no poll would suffice. It makes those that think the post count should stay look like they MUST have them.

So.....IMO.....this thread is useless (where's that damn icon).

I'm not a big fan of post counts at all. I find that too often they become a source of ego for people. One of my biggest pet peeves is seeing someone post how they hit some kind of post count pinnacle. eg. "Look at me, I hit XXXX posts!" as a thread. Now that to me is a useless post!

I've been on this site a long time and have been fairly non-vocal for some time. However, even where I've been popping up lately people seem to recall who I am. I don't think it's because people look at my post count, but rather they remember posts I've made in the past, how I carried myself on the forums, whether I went out of my way to help newbies etc.

If I play devil's advocate here and say that all of a sudden post counts already were gone. Now as a "newbie" to the forum, how would one go about looking for who experts are? It wouldn't be very difficult at all. If for instance I was interested in forced induction and went into that forum, I'd see all the different "regulars" there. I could still see their join date, so I'd know at the very least if they were new to these forums or if they'd been around for awhile. If I looked back a few pages of threads(and read some of them too of course), figuring out who knows what would become easily apparent. The same would apply to every forum. On the flipside, people who have been regulars here, already know the personalities of many of the different posters.

The downside of post counts is that some people(not all of course) feel that post count is somehow related to their worth. This can lead to things such as posting just to get posts rather than trying to add actual content. Not to say that a simple response means that it's not good content, but sometimes at least post counts will encourage people to for instance go into a bunch of posts and post "LOL" or "YEAH" or something similar just to raise their count.

Join date is a good way to go about it, however I started reading here a year before I posted or joined. I am sure I am not the only one either.
Just my 2 cents

See if people were to put that topic in the "Off Topic" forum there are no post counts at all.

I am for the post counts but, people need to know where to put threads sometimes

As far as trustworthiness goes I always read someone's old post for at least 2 weeks back before I buy from them. But I am on here enough to know who is cool and who is a scam artist.

I could care less one way or the other but I think post counts are kinda fun. I am waiting for '1st' to hit 10,000 :D

Ehhh, you only say that because you are a post *****!!!! LOL, j/k! :p

Keep 'em, I like 'em even though mine stays generally the same b/c I mainly post in OT. Oh well. Bleh.

i dont care for post counts at all.. another forum i visit did the same thing.. the post ****** were pist. lol

i like the fact about the forsale section though.. it does show that the person has been around and can be trusted (more then a newb)

Good point about the for sale section Matthew. I really don't care about my post count, but it's nice to know who's been around a while.
Definately leave the "date registered" under people's avatars.
(stupid)

takin away the post count wont stop senseless thread sometimes people just get into conversation with posting and dont even realize it

I thi9nk it's cool to see who posts how often. If you counted off-topic posts, there'd be ALOT of 100000+posters.lol. Leave them alone!
PS. Togan, I LOVE YOUR SIG!!!!!!!
