Removal of Stock Intake Assembly

Allright, so I just got my P5 this week and I'm already tinkering with it. I'm saving up for a CAI but in the meantime thought I'd remove the plastic intake component just before the filter box. Two bolts and it was off. Now I just have a 2-1/2" opening pointing straight up out of the filter box. Is this going to help with anything? It seems to sound a little throatier but I'm not sure if it will cause any damage. I'm a newbie at this so I just want to be cautious. God knows my wife would kill me if I broke the car. :D :D

you're just drawing hot air from the engine bay now, won't help your performance any. you could get some dryer hose and route it down to the bottom of the car....

when i first had my car i did the dryer hose thing and had a k&n drop in an it makes a big difference.

please put a filter in it. You don't wanna ve driving a $18000 vaccumm cleaner.

lol 18000 dollar vac. good one, im saving up the money for the injen now, if i was you id bolt the stcok crap back on, and buy a real intake when you have the chance.

yeah, i hear ya. i've been on this forum for 4 months now and waiting to get my P5 for just as long. i just needed to do something to it. just to get it out of my system. i'll be getting a CAI real soon.
peace out
Sean

I had a cone filter in place of the stock filter box and the temp. sensor drilled into a piece of ABS plastic I put in with it, and it seems that the mighty jump in horsepower (I'd guess around 2) overloaded my MAS. My car is at the dealer until tomorrow having the MAS replaced. Too much power, I guess!

I'll have to be careful.
