remote trunk release anybody?

One of the downsides to the Mazda3 sedan is that there is no trunk release, forcing us to either a) pull the trunk release lever near the driver's seat, which takes time if you're outside the car or b) use the key in the keyhole in the trunk, potentially scratching the paint if we don't have good hand-eye coordination.

Has anybody tried one of these kits?

It seems easy enough to install, but what would really make it great is if it were attached to the car alarm/keyless entry, which leads me to another question.

If the kit is installed and works, can it be wired into the existing keyless entry system? The OEM keyless entry remote obviously doesn't have a trunk button, but the switchblade key (available for the mz3 from onlinemazdaparts.com for instance) does have a trunk release button. Could it be wired to work with the trunk release button? Or is the keyless entry system just not wired/programmed for that option on the 3?

Discuss. (wiggle)

If you get one of the flip keys with the trunk button (i.e. the Mz6 sedan key) then it still won't help you. While the Mz3 computer can "hear" the button (so you can use it with programming the remote) it doesn't have any additional outputs to trigger a trunk release.

Members on some of the other forums have rewired the remote system from: one push: driver's door, two pushes: all doors, To: one push: all doors, two pushes all doors and trunk popper. It means you'd have to be careful that you're not accidentally popping your trunk but at least you can do it from your remote.

thanks for the info. I really wish the flip key trunk button would work! Now I'm not sure I want a flip key with a useless trunk button. I wonder if it would be possible to swap out the keyless entry from a 6 into the 3...hmmm
