Remote Start/Alarm on 67 mustang?

Is it possible? Can you do remote start on a carb car? What alarm would be best?

Thanks in advance.

Is it an automatic? Remote start is possible on any car, it's just not very safe on some(cars with no neutral safety switch or manual tranny). As the mustang more than likely doesn't have a neutral safety switch if it has the original tranny you'd have to put the neutral sense wire to ground and pray you never try to start it with it in gear.

Any alarm from DEI is a safe bet, Viper, Clifford and such. Some swear by compustar, but I've never been particularly fond of them. You can find decent deals for clifford RSX3.5 on ebay which is two way remote start alarm, and it's a pretty straight forward inistall. A little time consuming , but if you take your time and know how to use a multimeter it's pretty easy.

In my early days of installing before listening to the warnings of not installing anything with the battery connected I was installing an alpine 8080a alarm with remote start in brand new 560sl benz. I hadn't gotten around to connecting the neutral safety switch wire as it was a b**** to find on that car. I got up for a few minutes and one of the other techs got into the car fidgeting under the dash installing a k40 radar detector. Well I wasn't done and had a few bare wires, one specifically was the remote start trigger. The car was in D1 so we could have some extra room to work. The next thing I hear is the benz trying to start, the tech squeeling like a pig, then CRUNCH, BANG. It went about 50 feet across the garage had managed to start and ended up embedding itself under a brand new F350 econoline van setting off the airbag and breaking two of the techs ribs because he was wedged under the dash.

umm no trying to insult you or anything but do you know how carburator works? Cars of this age generally require the pump the gas pedal in order for the car to start. It is an auto as well but the above problem is what concerns me.

Time for an EFI project or only start it when it's warm, and yes I'm quite aware of how a carburetor works. You didn't mention anything about the concerns of cranking a carb'd car with a remote start, just if it was possible to add it.

the concern was in my first post.

EFI is not an option as of yet but will be a thought in the future thanks.

If you had an electric fuel pump and set the float level too high so as soon as the fuelpump kicked on it started dumping fuel out the carb.. it may work. Def. wouldn;t be reliable at all though.

Yes it will work, I've done quite a few old Mustangs and Darts as well as many carb'ed motorcycles. It does matter greatly on where you live. All of my work has been in Southern California and most of the systems are for people who these cars are not daily drivers. If you set the unit for a longer crank time then you are OK. The one thing to really watch for on the Mustang is that part of the starter line is a resistor for most of the run under the dash so you generally have to do your hook ups under the hood right at the starter solenoid. Also do not leave the ignition on for too long when looking for your wires, since the distributor has points in it you will burn out the points if power is left too it for a long period of time without the engine running and moving the points.
