Remote Pooping Out

Over the weekend, I let my dad borrowed my car, and when he brought it back, he said the remote wasn't working. It worked when he opened the car, got in and drove it. But when he got out to lock it, it wasn't working anymore.

I took the remote to Radio Shack and got a new battery, but that didn't work. I'll be taking it to the dealership today, but was wondering if anyone else was having problems with their P5.

Yeah, also, has anyone tried rolling down the driver window, locking the car, and reaching over and opening the car from the inside? Yeah, when my alarm goes off, it sounds like my car is being brutally slaughtered, no where near a consistent beep...more like "beepprprprp beep beep brepeprprrrp beep beeprprprrrp". Anyone have any ideas?

I'm dealin with the crapped out remotes also right now. Got my P5 in June, two weeks later first keyless entry remote goes dead. I figure it's just a battery. Then last Thursday the second remote dies. I buy two new batteries at $4.95 a pop, replace them and still nothing. I don't think it's anything serious, just annoying to have to use the key now.

That's the point. If you read the alarm (or car manual, don't remember which) that type of alarm is called something like Random Horn Alarm, or something of that nature.

It's made to be random so you won't ignore it (someone might think it's an actual person and might take a look) just like you would ignore any other generic car alarm that has a perfectly rhythmic beep or that whole series of sounds that we all can probably sing along to. :D

I bought my p5 used and the remote was dead when I bought it. I also relplaced the battery but after reading the manual, I found out I needed to get it reprogrammed after changing the battery. So just take it to the dealership, its under warranty but it'll take them up to an hour to reprogram it.

I found the reprogramming sequence on the "other" fourm and reprogrammed both of my remotes in about 5 minutes. Worked like a charm.

I copied this from the post I found. I did not figure it out so don't thank me for it, but it does work.

Start:
1999-2003 Protege OEM Keyless Entry Code Change How-to
The following is a how-to on changing the security codes on the remote and keyless entry module in case you are either paranoid or having problems with your keyless entry.

1. Make sure there are no keys in the ignition and that all doors are closed
2. Open driver's side door
3. Insert key into ignition switch and cycle the key between the ON and LOCK positions 3 times
4. Remove key from ignition switch
5. Push the driver's side door sensor switch 3 times
6. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock.
If nothing happens, wait 40 seconds and start from step 3 again
7. Press any button on any transmitter twice
8. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
9. If you have only 1 remote, press any button on that remote twice.
If you have 2 or 3 remotes, press any button on any of the other remotes twice.
10. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
11. If you have 1 or 2 remotes, press any button on either remote twice.
If you have 3 remotes, press any button on the 3rd remote twice.
12. Verify that the doors lock and then unlock
If nothing happens, see note A
13. The codes should now be reprogrammed

Note A:
1. Hold down the driver's side door sensor switch
2. Verify that the doors lock and unlock twice
3. Start from step 3 again

If you start working on 1 remote, finish working with that 1 remote until you're done reprogramming it!!!
End

I drove home like 60 some odd miles (no problem), and tried out the remote my dad had kept for me. Yeah, worked like a charm. Was weird. Yeah, don't know. But it works now...<<shrugs>> whatever.
