Remember the "Cougar Ace" ship on its side with all the Mazdas aboard? read this

Hmmm....they must be staying in that area and selling them used there, huh? As long as they have the warranty on them it might be a good deal. Wonder if the jostling around might screw up the computers etc.? I am sure they will be checking and testing them all I imagine...I'd think if a bunch of things went wrong in that batch it might tarnish the CX 7 reputation. Or is it buyer beware? Hey, a question to you all off topic a bit .....I am selling my RX 8.....it's in the midst of a voluntary emission recall of sorts...testing it to see if it needs certain things or a new engine. Also, the rotary has it's quirks too...do you guys feel I need to tell a buyer about all the quirks and things going on if they come out to test drive it? I told a young guy about some stuff and he seemed to not care and loved the car but the parents I think were leary so I never heard back? Should it be up to them to get all the info. and when they drive it they can see how it performs and is driving anyway! Just want your thoughts...sometimes I give out too much info. and am too honest! I researched the car since I had no clue about a rotary before I bought it. Thanks for any thoughts on this!

I would limit the amount of info you give out, but let them know that Mazda is "looking into some sort of recal" for the engine, but you dont know anything about it other than it would be completely covered by Mazda.

Basically, play dumb, but make sure that they know that if there IS anything that will be done, it will be of no cost to the new owner.

After you inform them of that, just go on and on about how great the car runs, etc... Once you convince them that the car/engine runs so awesome, they will probably put the 'recal thing' in the back of their mind and not worry about it.

"I got a letter in the mail that states SOME RX-8's will be recalled to get a completely new engine at no charge to the owner, but I didnt pay much attention to it since my car has run so great since I got it..."

That might be something to say.

Being a fellow RX-8 owner, I definetly would NOT tell the next buyer about all the quirks of the rotary. If I knew then what I know now, I would have passed on the RX-8.

I did a lot of research on the rotary before I bought and had heard good things about its smoothness and ample power, however no one talked about the excessive oil, rough starts and constant shuddering at idle if you use anything less than top-tier 91 octane. Man, I'd kill for a car with a 'normal' engine.

We have an RX-8 too and have not had any major problems. We had one flood but it was our fault because we didn't let it warm up or rev it to 3500rpm before shut down. We did get it restarted after a lot tries. I took it to the dealer afterward and they fixed the check engine light (CEL) with new plugs and starter. If you worry about the recall I would take it in now for the engine recall so they can run the test. The dealer will let you know if yours is affected. Some other RX-8 owners I know have not gotten their letters yet, but have taken them in and have had the test done. The dealer let them know if their passed or have fixed the cars. I haven't taken ours yet because I'm waiting until we need an oil change before I do. I think most people that want the car know the "quirks" of the car and are prepared for that. If you tell them it is a rotary engine and they act confused - I wouldn't be comfortable even selling them the car. Just my two cents.....

Thanks...

Hey, thanks for your thoughts on the RX 8. I wanted to take my car in already but my dealer said it won't be for another month before I can bring it in to be tested....don't have the equiptment to test it he said. I am in Illinois...I heard they are doing it in waves, knocking out the west coast first. The engine is tempermental. Sometimes she idles rough, once and awhile she bucks when really cold in the winter(fine when engine is warm), a few times she's hesitated and seem to have a little power loss etc. Right now she's running great! If these things were all the time I would have been so aggravated I would have dumped the car long ago. I am not sure what will happen on the recall....I don't think it will need a new engine. It's just a tough scenario with such a unique car....what to say, what not to say...etc. I just hate the feeling we will take a hit on this thing unless I wait it out 2 more years which right now seems like an eternity....my son hates riding in it as does my husband, I need the cargo for my jewelry biz and I just want a more normal car. For the sport car lovers I wish they could just put a regular turbo engine in the 8 because the design is phenomenal!! I love the 8 and could deal with oil and warm up issues but not the rest! It is a great handling car and a blast to drive and what a looker the car is in and out!! Hmmm......I wonder if I see a CX 7 in my future.....I hope so but it may be another month!!!
