Reliable Mazda service in AB?

Need to have someone look into my dramatically declining fuel economy. I have checked all the likely culprits, even replaced parts that I probably didn't have to ... tire pressure is good, air filter is good, oil change at every 5K, tire rotation at every 10K, EGR cleaned, spark plugs replaced, etc ... still getting pathetic fule economy. I remember the good ol' days when a tank would get me over 600KM. I've been averaging 450KM for the last 6 months.

I need to take it into a good shop, to see what they can find. I really do not enjoy my local dealer and wouldn't mind driving down to Calgary if there is a shop (dealer or otherwise) that comes highly recommended.

Thank you!

The local service shop in my community has always served my family well. Ive never had my mazda serviced there but he seems to be pretty competant and what he does. PM if you interested and I'll pass along the info.

Sylvan, where abouts are you? In Edmonton? If you are - or Edm is closer - I'd highly recommend you go to Abbey Road Auto. They specialize in Mazda, and one of the owners (who actually works on the cars) is a certified Mazda Master Mechanic who autox's, etc. They know their s*** and have great service and prices. Just about all the guys in our local club go there and have had no complaints. Talk to Jim.

I'm actually in Red Deer, so either Edmonton or Calgary is fine by me!

I will give Abbey Road Auto a call. I was really looking for a certified Mazda mechanic as I think I have eliminated all the likely suspects and am really questioning a sensr (or something) somewhere ... but my knowledge of the inner-bowels of the Protege5 is too limited to really dig into it. I appreciate your input!

no problem, any time. if you need a number, let me know - i'll pm it to you. and you're in good hands if you deal with them. :)

hey sylvan, how many km's do you have on your car? do you have any mods on your car? have you had your fuel filter changed? checked your o2 sensor? pcv? injector cleaning? my brother had the same problem, once we did a complete tune up it went back up. Also I don't like the dealers hear in calgary. Always some form of trouble with them.

Car is still bone-stock mechanically and is right around 115,000km. I have run a few bottles of over-the-counter injector cleaner through the system, changed out spark plugs, replaced air filter, cleaned out EGR valve, reset computer. I think that's it. How would one test the O2 sensor? Fuel filter has not been changed.

Wish I could get this one figured out - it's been pretty expensive at the pumps lately!
