Refuelling Problems

Does it take anyone else forever to get a full tank of gas bc it keeps bubbling up and stopping the pump. I stored the car for the winter and used 'stable' or something like that, all it is is something to keep your gas from going bad. I have filled up several times since storing but it is still bubbling bad, its like pumping a 1/4 of a gallon and stopping for a min. I don't know what the heck is going on.

it never did this before storing it this winter, exept one time last winter when I left my car running while filling up(oops).

yeah, seems like Alan likes balls......er, i mean seem like it might be an issue with the pump.

It only happened to me when I left the car running. Also once, the pump kept pumping after it was full! I was on the other side of the car, and heard a splashing sound. Gas went all down the side of the car...I was pissed. But the lady gave me a free brushless car wash and all was good.

Yup, that has happened on EVERY fill up of EVERY protege I've ever owned (2 of them). For me the pump usually shuts off at about 12 gallons and I can always fit in an addition 1.5 gallons if I "trickle" it in slowly. VERY annoying. Like I said, this has been the case with both of my proteges. Most people probably haven't experienced it because if you just let the pump shut itself off and end right there, the gas gauge still reads full. I hate stopping for gas though so I always make sure I fill that b**** to the brim no matter how slowly you have to pump it in.(butthump)

Nope never had that happen that often when filling up. And yes you could always squeeze some more in once it stops, but meh ton of gas stations around here to stop at.
But what you are describing seems different as you say it happens almost every 1/4. So you mean it goes 1/4, stops, goes 1/4 more, stops etc etc etc.

That's what I was wondering too. Mine always goes to 12 gallons and then I can squeeze in another 1.5 gallons at least (which is a lot). By "1/4" I wonder if he means it stops every 25 cents? That would make more sense.

It happens at every pump. I am trickling the entire tanks worth. If I held it down full on the pump it would start to bubble, nothing overflowing, but it bubbles up you can hear it then it obviously shuts the pump off. then I wait and start again. about a 1/2 hour later I have a full tank. that isn't even stretching the truth.

nothing like trickling at the end of a pump it is like trickling the entire tank and having the pump shut off like 20 time inbetween.

Yup, I have it happen every once in a while. I have found that if you don't have it going full force I don't have a problem. Works just fine on Medium.

I have had it on bearly pumping and it still does it. I gotta figure something out. maybe it will go away.

Just an idea, have the dealer check it out. I have absolutely no problems with putting gas in, with or without the car running. Not once has it just shut off, or overflowed except when I pulled out too early. That was messy. just my $.02

Is it possible that something bent or clogged the filler neck going to the tank?

if i had to guess, i'd say it was due to that stuff you put in the tank before winter for the gas not to go bad... just my opinion.

Always sucks when you pull out too early...

I fill mine up until I see the gas sitting there. The trick is to trickle the gas in with the nozzle resting on the lip of the opening. You may have to release a few times to let the gas bubbles settle.

I noticed that if I go fill up when my car is still cold its not as bad, but it still does it. I will have to look up any service bulletins at work and see if there is a fix for it. till then I will have to trickle on the lip of the opening...lol
