Redoing My IC TO TB Pipe

and I am putting the MAF on it. I know to put it around 12 inches away from the throttle body, but what im wondering is if my methenol needle is injecting like 6 inches after will it cause any incorrect readings? Im assuming it wouldnt be a good idea to put the needle before the MAF. in case of it getting soaked?

If it's after it I don't see any problems. As long as it doesn't leak. You really have to be careful, they don't like any kind of contamination.

do you think that fuel cut will not occur as much since the intake charge temps, although quite cool from the fmic, will not be as cold as the intake side of the turbo temps. Its freezing here.

I'm interested in seeing how this goes for you. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but haven't had a lot of time to work on it. What will you do on the intake side to fill the void? Just use a kinda long silicone coupler?

And for your question, I'm certainly no expert, but the only way I could see it being a problem is if enough air is flowing back during blowoffs to put methanol on the maf. But who knows if methanol would hurt the sensor.

i am just running a aem short ram right now, so the filter will fit on the pipe no problem with the maf off.

(mswerd) I was kinda thinking that too. I got my AEM as short ram, but was thinking about going back to CAI.

i like it as a CAI, but for winter i have to keep it sri. The main drawback from the SRI is that the IAT sensor will be retarding 4 degrees of timing after 4800rpm since the sensor is right behind the rad.

how did u come up with that number ? i mean how do u know what the temp change will be ?

i don't think the MAF is sensitive to temperature. you might rather want to put your Intake Air Temperature sensor after the intercooler, before the throttle body. That's where I have mine at for the Haltech.

what would you do to keep it from creating a boost leak?

we drilled a hole *just* large enough for my IAT so that the fitment was snug and then JB welded around all the seams, sanded it down, JB welded it again. Its like a continous part of the pipe now. some of you may think the JB weld sealing it up sounds redneckkish but let me tell you - that sensor is not going anywhere and the pipe doesn't leak one bit. driven on it for several thousand miles this way and that sucker is in solid.

keep in mind this probably would NOT work on plastic pipes. my charge pipes are all steel and I don't think the JB weld would adhere to stock MSP pipes

wouldnt the iat sensor block flow through the small 2" hardpipes compared to the stock airbox? I know the maf will, but at least it is designed to have air flow through it. I will keep the IAT loose for now, becuase once the CAI is back on its not a problem.

Hey jeff, sorry to get kinda offtopic, but how is your AEM secured with only the first pipe? Mine has the filter resting on part of the frame to hold it up, and it rattles when launching. Did you make a custom bracket or what?

well i have the methenol pump installed right underneigth it a bit so it seems ok, the intake stays put for me anyways really, its even a b**** to get off.

Updates?

I am interested in doing this too, but worried about the MAF being too close to my Type-S. Since the HiBoost kit has the BOV lower, there is plenty of room between it and the TB on the pipe....but there is the whole 12" rule. Where did this come from? Thanks in advance.

are you kidding? everybody is suppose to know that. j/k ......how do you know that? (uhm)
