Red Temp radiator guage flashing 2016 CX-5

Recently had a water pump replaced. Drove fine for 3 days. Now the radiator temp light is flashing red on a 25 min ride to work. Sometimes the light would go off for a few minutes, but then flash again. Maybe bad sensor? Or did they screw something up putting in new water pump?

Solution
Amber light = bad
Red light = really bad
Flashing red light = you're going to destroy your engine if you continue to drive it.

How is the coolant level in the radiator? (Make sure it's cooled down before you take the cap off)

Coolant level in the reservoir bottle?

Any coolant leaks, wet spots underneath? Coolant smell/odor?

Is there heat available from your vents inside if you turn the HVAC control to hot?

Pull out the oil dipstick ... How does that look? Normal?

Visually check the water pump belt (there is a separate belt for the water pump itself)

I noticed you said you recently had the water pump replaced. Did you have the flashing red temperature warning light before and that's why you had the water pump replaced?

Thanks for the response. I took it back to the shop. They said their was an air pocket in the line so they flushed it out and cleared the codes. So, we'll see soon enough

Hopefully that takes care of your problem and no damage was done.

What was the original cause that you replaced the water pump?

Last Thursday evening I heard some rubbing coming from the passenger side when driving home. Noticed fluid leaking under the car (darkish green). So I parked on the street. Took to shop Friday. Guy said as they were checking things, the water pump basically fell apart. So, they replaced that and put new belts on. Picked up Saturday and drove around city with no problems. Drove on interstate Monday no problems. Today, it was raining, drove on interstate 70-75 mph for 25 minutes. The red flashing light appeared as I was 5-10 min from my destination.

AND WE ARE BACK!!!! Lasted just a couple days and now the radiator light flashed red then goes out after :15 seconds. Continues this process. Issue was resolved this past Saturday, and hasn't been an issue. Although, I went thru the car wash yesterday and then noticed I had hot air coming thru my vents even in the A/C mode and set at 60 degrees. Went to same mechanic to do an A/C inspection. Hooked up machine and said it needed a 1/2 charge....$177 later air was cold again. This morning driving on interstate for 15 minutes at 70-75 mph, A/C was not as cold as it was yesterday and the radiator light started flashing "again". Now I am at a loss on what to do as I am losing faith in this repair shop or how to proceed. The car has only 88K miles and has been well maintained
