most definitely. i may take some christmas money and upgrade the stereo with some ipod integration and satellite radio. 4 hours in a car everday is going to be hell with the shiat on the radio.

are there any mods for the wrx that increase gas mileage? i know for hte proteges i/h/e etc makes it breathe better, and ppl get mid/high 30s hwy, 5-9 mpg more than the epa rating. are there any similar mods for the wrex?

i've read of ecu remaps getting better mileage. cobb has an economy map, but i hear it's a pretty crappy tune. i'd love to do a downpipe and reflash, but i'm too worried about emissions and stuff.
A paid off car will always be better financially than trading it in and buying another car just for the mileage. but if you're going with choice #2 (you are in need of another car anyways, and are concerned with fuel effenciency) you can't beat hybrid 
On a bad tank, i get 43mpg (real world stuck in traffic commuter day-to-day driving). I've gotten as high as 47.1 out of my best tank, and that was before they started using the damn crap E10 gas.
