Rebuilding a Speed 6 engine, how do i line up (zero) the engine?

I'm not sure which workshop manual you have. You should have the Engine L3 with TC manual. Part number 1833-1U-05H.
It covers tear down and reassembly of the engine. Loads of specifications and step by steps.

Ebay has them on rare occasions, or just call a Mazda dealer.

if u havent put an engine back together before, then dont. take it somewhere before u royally screw yourself.

Its not that hard me and a couple friends put together my bottomend and head in my msp motor last weekend. Had all of the specs and they were all good its not rocket science....Get the engine manual and you should be good to go as long as you have all the necessairy tools and measuring devices like i did.

you need special service timing tools and the engine manual to do this right. it is nowhere near as easy as putting a protege engine back together. have done several of these. timing must be spot on, and if it is not you will have piston to valve interference and you run the risk of bending or breaking a valve. get the manual and get the timing tools, you should be good to go.

wow whats that like the zf 1.5? i am pretty sure ALL mazda protege dohc engines are interference and if you have broke a belt and didnt bend valves, luck is on your behalf

umm no the 2.0l fs-de is a non interference motor

if it was, i would have been screwed royally.
Yup- going to need 4 tools: the plate that slides into the back of the cams, the special bolt that goes into the backside of the block that you bottom the crank out against, a 6mm bolt that locates the crank pulley to the front cover and a crank pulley holding tool that you will use to torque your NEW crankbolt down to spec with.

if you are buddy buddy with the dealer, they should let you borrow them. otherwise its a $225+ investment on your part for them
