Rear Sway bar design

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a rear sway bar
I've looked at the Corksport, racing beat, Steeda (fiesta) and i know about the Tri- Point one but I'm yet to see a picture of it
Corksport - Aluminium as a spring material just makes me worry, I'm sure its a super alloy that will never crack but I'm just weary
Racing beat - I like the way this one clamps over the OEM torsion bar, but I don't think the fixing is as secure as Steeda.
Steeda - solid mounting to the OEM torsion beam but does require drilling, plus I think I could make it in my shed!
Tri-point - sounds like something I'd be interested in but I cant find a price or picture anywhere!

I've also found this one:
http://www.whiteline.com.au/docs/install_guides/Z5055.pdf
now this isn't specifically for our car so may well be the wrong length etc. but I prefer this design over the others that I have seen - I'm sure the Tri-Point bar is similar to this.

anybody else agree, disagree, thoughts, comments etc?

Cheers,
Nathan

The tri-point bar is part of the mazdaspeed spec-b package, and you can find info about on their website (tripointengineering.com) which seems to be down at the moment. I'm not familiar with the steeda bar, mainly because of all the other options that don't require drilling. That whiteline kit you found looks awesome though! Hopefully they'll come out with a kit for the newer models. Being a true anti-sway bar it would certainly be legal for stock class auto-x, and I love that its adjustable. Unfortunately it will surely be more pricey than the other options. I just ordered the corksport bar mainly because its significanly cheaper than the RB bar, especially when bought in combination with the front bar ($70). If the RB bar was near the same price, I would have gone that route for the rear bar. There's a thread around here somewhere in regards to a custom fabbed rear bar similar to the corksport unit, but slightly beefier.

yeah I have seen the home made one and I was planning on going down the same route until I heard about the Tri-Point one and then I found the Whiteline one.

On their website the Whiteline one is 194 which is about $306 so is the most expensive :(

I guess we have to take into account bang for buck!

That whiteline kit is fairly extensive, so I'm not the least bit surprised its so expensive. Whiteline also has an unmatched reputation for swaybars. If you'll be doing alot of track/auto-x it very well may be worth the extra money (if you have it and are willing) to have the adjustability. Only problem is there's no way to be sure it will fit. Perhaps you could try to get some input from whiteline regarding fittment on the newer cars.

How much beefier than the $125.00 22mm Progress rr sway would you need? Fits using oem endlinks & works with car being lowered. Have never touched the front one. Car is super balanced and don't see the need to jack with the front one, especially with how much fun it is to swap. I guess if there are adjustable ones and this would be beneficial for frequent track days then yeah, cool. Just isn't the case for mine, set it and forget it. Here's pic of the fitment shot during recent swap of trailing arms and addition of reinforcement panel...................

That's not a Mazda 2 though :D

Oh s***, that's what I get for just readin the title in the righthand margin of the home pg..............(confused)

The Whiteline installation instructions are showing for the DY chassis. I am not sure how close they is to the DE chassis Mazda 2 but the setup looks cool.

Whiteline are sending me some dimensions later today so hopefully we'll find out if its transferable across the 2 chassis' :D

We're talking about the rear torsion bar yes? I didn't think our cars had a true rear sway.

I've got the Corksport one and I'm extremely happy with it. I could feel an immediate difference when I put it on. Much greater than with the strut tower bar. that and the front sway combined REALLY tightened up the car drastically. If I didn't have a sub thats about 2 inches further forward than it should be I'd put the rear brace in too.

For the money I can't imagine that a 200% price increase will yield 200% better results for a torsion bar. I suspect the law of diminishing returns comes into play pretty fast with something as simple as a torsion bar.

True the 2 does not have its own true sway bar, but the Whiteline and from what I understand the Tri-Point adds a sway bar to the rear suspension system.
I have found the whiteline kit for 165 delivered in the UK so to me the price is not too much different, Although we still don't know if this kit fits!

:D
