Rear Speaker question

Are our 6x9's powered by the amp that the car comes with or are they ran off the head unit?? I don't think my 6x9's are working now that I removed my amp.

there are speakers only in the doors, the sub and amp is in the rear deck under the rear windshield

hope this helps

BTW, the amp only runs the sub

So there are no speakers under the 2 kenwood screens behind the back seat? I haven't taken out the box for the sub yet so I haven't got to check.

So then if remove the rear box that the sub was in, can I install some speakers back there with no modifications? My 8" sub blew along time ago so I just want to remove the box and install some 6x9's or what ever size fits back there.

You would need to run another amp to run those additional speakers. you can't run them off the headunit b/c it is already running the speakers in the front doors and rear doors. unless you get a 6 channel amp and run all 6 speakers (2 front, 2 rear, 2 rear deck) ....

I installed some Infinity 6x9 in my rear deck, and im running the speakers from the HU. I did this because the speaker wire is already leading back there, all u have to do is connect the speakers and the wires. I dont know if this is safe for the HU.

so you're running 6 speakers off of a 4 channel deck?

Don't our cars come with 7 speakers stock? 2-tweeters, 2 in the front doors, 2 in the rear doors and 1 8" sub?

I have another amp waiting for the 6x9's when I order them so they won't be running off of the deck.

kind of but not really.... you can say MSP has 5 speakers. 2 front, 2 rear doors, and one sub.

other cars have coaxials which have the tweeter mounted on the midbass speaker. in the MSP (and 2003 Protege models) the 2 front speakers just splits the midbass speaker and tweeter.... but in reality it's just one speaker.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. Looks like I will be getting the 6x9's after all and I will just run those off of an amp that I already have. Thanks again for the help.

i think it would be more wise to get better front speakers like components and run that off the amp. you want the staging of the music in front of you, not behind you. you don't go to a concert and face in the opposite direction of the stage.

Well I am not too skilled when it comes to speakers, I just wanted to put the 6x9's back there because it was already wired. What are some good component speakers to replace the stock ones? Is it even worth doing?
