Rear Brakes?

I am keeping a close eye on my brakes after reading about the problems people are having with them. My front brakes look fine, but the rears look slightly grooved and the rims have a lot of brake dust on them. Every other car I have ever had always had more brake dust on the front rims rather than the rear. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, a lot of Mazda3 owners are having this. There is also more & deeper grooving on the rear discs.

Depending on the severity and the dealer, you may get one of the following responses:

- new pads & rotors
- machine the rotors
- "it's normal" talk

Does your car have ABS? There are rumours this problem is more evident (or only evident) on vehicles with ABS.

Yes I do have ABS! My car now has a little over 2000 miles on it, if that helps.

rear brakes

Mine does not have the ABS, and I am getting much more brake dust on the rear wheels than the front. Heck, the fronts dont have any at all on them. I am still noticing a slight groove on my front right rotor and now am seeing a slight one on the left rear.....Weird. (dunno)

Owners have had issues on both the front and rear pads & rotors. The worst 2 cases I've seen of the grooving has actually come from the front - but the rear brake dust is more prevalent.

Honestly, what I would do is leave it as is unless the grooves are massive. To my understanding, even if they replace the pads/rotors at this moment, it'll still be the same type. So you may as well wait until there's a definitive solution.

good point wongpress, I figured the same, that is why i am just keeping an eye on it instead of making them do something "now". Cause it will just be the same situation for everyone till they figure out exactly the "new" replacement.
