they just dont feel right and i keep grinding them. what do i do? add transmission fluid?

whats that? how do i fix it and is it expensive? i have like 54,000 miles on it
Is that what is possibly happening to me? When I go from 2nd to 3rd I hear what sounds like a quick grind/grating/clunk sound. It only happens in 2nd to 3rd though. I literally have to start to bring the clutch out slowly and a inch or so and slowly move the shifter to thrid in a zig-zag pattern (sort of) while bringin the clutch out...I already changed the fluid to synthetic about 10,000 miles ago to.

I took mine in to get it checked. Mine grinds into second and sometimes won't go into third. THe dealer is replacing synchros, shift forks, .etc..etc...still under the power train warranty....there is a TSB for a hard shift into third......maybe take that to your dealer if you are having a tough time with third as well...

There is a TSB out there for third gear Synchromesh being weak and needing replacement on pre 2003 vehicles, IIRC.
My 2002 grinds into 3rd each and every time I shift trying to maintain the proper RMP... It really grinds when trying to shift quickly into the gear.
This transmission really doesn't like quick, efficient shifts...especially 2nd and third gears. I have since started double clutching and although it works most of the time, sometimes I still have to wait until the revs are waaaay down before I can shift into 3rd gear without grinding.
I really miss my Neon's transmision...never missed a shift, never ground it, power-shifting that tranny (omg) was a great feeling...nothing better than awesome, quick shifts.

Damn...Well sounds like we ^^ have the same kind of problem. I would take it to the dealer, but I'm already at 107,000 miles on my early 02 and no warranty for me I would think..haaa...TSB?

Double clutching is used primarily on large vehicles with Diesel engines and transmissions that do not have syncromesh gears.
Double clutching allows engine and transmission to rotate at the same speed.
To double clutch, one must, press the clutch pedal, take the tranny out of gear, release the clutch pedal completely, press the clutch pedal again, then once the clutch pedal is in fully, place the transmission into the desired gear.
In other words...clutch in, out of second gear, release clutch, clutch in, into third gear.
Takes some getting used to but it works...most o' the time. (silly)

If that sig pic is your car, it's a 2002.0 (covered by the TSB)
if it were a 2002.5, you'd have sidemarker lights and the newer style wheels (not curvy spokes, straight-ish spokes).
