Really fast SRT-4

The viper are still AVAILABLE, that does not mean they just come with them, but they are still plastic and they are hard to get into and out of.

Again, I wonder why I bought the MSP. :D Actually, no I dont, I owned a Neon before the MSP, and all that power cant just make up for the rental car look.

I've got a 2004 SRT-4 and it came with these seats which are the racing type that were mentioned:

As for the SRT-4 being still "just a Neon", well, that's just the dumbest thing I've heard (and believe me I've heard it a lot cuz trolls post it on the SRT forums all the time). It's "just a Neon" like the MSP is "just a Protege" or the EVO is "just a Lancer" or the WRX is "just an Impreza". The car is thoroughly re-worked inside and out.......suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, engine, drivetrain, diff, bodywork, seats, gauges........etc. The interior of the SRT for me is actually quite impressive......looks quite tasteful and has good fit and finish.....and yes, the racing seats are awesome but a tight fit for me being cuz I'm a bit oversized. I really like the SRT.....the only problems I've had are that it pulls to one side but after a few trips to the dealer we've found that it's got to be a bad set of tires cuz when we rotate them the pull switches sizes so I'm not hating on the car for that one any more (and they're replacing all 4 tires). The car is really SICK fast......I drive the MSP and SRT back to back quite often and the difference is HUGE.......on the flip side though the MSP handling is just amazing.......the SRT can't really touch it in stock form but the $1000 Mopar coilovers make it handle like it's on rails from what I've read. Also, the SRT shifter isn't that great as mentioned.......the throws are long and the feel is pretty spongy. This is due to the fact that there are rubber bushings used in the shifter and can be easily cured by a $15 set of the urethane "booger" bushings that can be installed in about 30 minutes. I'm going to get the Perrin short shifter with the urethane bushings myself. I've read that this combo with the bushings gives it the nice tight "snickety snick" feeling that we all know and love in the MSP.

Believe me, I'm a domestic car hater from WAY back and really wanted to hate the SRT-4..........and after owning one I'm impressed cuz it's an awesome car for the $$$ with HUGE performance potential and LOTS of aftermarket and factory support which the MSP definitely does NOT have. And as you can see by the infamous SRTGIRL vids the car runs 12's with only an exhaust and a CAI. There aren't many $20k cars that can put 260hp at the wheels for a few hundred bucks in factory mods. I'll be doing a full Auto-X season in C-Stock next year so I'll report on how the car does since my 04 has the new Quaife LSD.......should be pretty fun !

Well most people have never driven a SRT-4...alot of people believe what Car and Driver, Motor Trend and etc says. I have a copy of Motor Trend's 2004/3005 New Car Buyers guide and they compared the SVT Focus, MSP and SRT-4. The SRT-4 won by a small margine because of its engine. But they ragged on how little it offered besides the engine/power. I believe they said it had alot of power in a "rental car interior." They also ragged on how awsome the MSP would be if it had a bit more power.

No car is perfect and the truth is SRT-4 is fast but wish it spread some of that Money invested over the entire vehicle. Nice racing tires would be nice. Lower stance and power rear windows would be nice. Putting some aftermarket parts would be nice. i.e. I trust Tokico better then Mazda for making shocks.

I sat in a SRT-4 at a car show and it still felt like I was sitting in a Neon beside for the sweet racing seats. I've seen them at the tracks all the time and I can tell you its not a Neon...the exhaust note is nice. But they should have done abit more then just make it fast.

I've never been on the SRT forums but I have a buddy that drives a SRT-4 and says people on that forum are assholes. Every SRT-4 owner I met, with the exception of 2, were pretty cocky and thought they were badass.

I also heard rumors that the 2004 models do not come with the viper racing seats. I didn't believe it till I saw this ebay sale:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6204&item=2444998715

The dealer claims its a 2004 models and it doesn't have any racing seats. So does the 2004 model come with viper racing seats or not? Those seats are the only cool thing in the SRT-4...besides the engine.

I test drove one 3 weeks ago that was a red, 04, viper seats, sunroof and LSD. They have viper seats but it is now an option just like the roof and side air bags.

1. Other then the shifter and horribly integrated boost guage, I like the noens interior. The silver and fake carbon fiber in the protege really pisses me off.

2. The SRT viper seats are actualy comfortable, so long as you aren't driving :D. The SRT has some terrible ergonomics for sure. They do hold you inplace though as opposed tothe protege seats that almost seem to throw you in th eopposite direction the car is going.

3. I am also on the srtforums and I agree there are alot of ass clowns but also alot of cool people too. Keep in mind these guys get a new troll every 15 seconds, they are just basicly sick of s*** talkers on there site.

The MS/P would rock if it had more power! Howoever, that requires more money. Remember, Dodge's objective was to make a relatively cheap car with great potential, and a powerful engine. Where the MS/P lacks in engine, the SRT-4 lacks in interior/fit & finish. And to me, I can give a s*** about how the car looks on the inside, it's what's under the hood, and how it looks outside that matters IMO. Since the SRT-4 interior is decent, I can deal. It's simple, and comfortable.

I agree. I wish I had power windows, and even wheel gap. Lol.

Remember, that takes more money. I applaud, and am happy with the choice of them over-engineering the engine, because that's the reason I bought this car. And like some have said, if I want to handle, I'll spend a G on Coil-overs.

I've never been on the SRT forums but I have a buddy that drives a SRT-4 and says people on that forum are assholes. Every SRT-4 owner I met, with the exception of 2, were pretty cocky and thought they were badass.

Nah, we're good guys at heart.

Something you feel and use and touch every day you don't care about ....lol wow. Ok. Opinion gets to a point where it's not valid anymore. The interior SUPER plasticy and cheap, no 2 ways about it. Fit and finish matters in the long haul.
