Re-wire Fog Light To The Parking Light.

Well what if you're sitting in a parking lot waiting to pick someone up and you're just listening to tunes, or have the A/C running. However if you don't mind and you just want the fogs on at all times that the car is then here you go.

What you need:
-two male spade connectors
-~10" of wire
-inline fuse (or wire with fuse built in)

Step 1: Open Hood, take cover off fuse box.

Step 2: Remove fog relay. It's to the "left" (passenger's side) of the relay in the top right corner of the fuse box in this picture.

Step 3: Insert spade connector on one end of the wire into this slot where the relay was plugged in.

Step 4: Insert the spade connector on the other end of the wire into this slot at the other end of the fuse box.

Step 5: route the wire however you'd like to get it out of the way.

This mod is totally reversible back to stock simply by removing the wire and plugging the relay back in. It will turn the fogs on whenever the ignition is on, leave them on independent of the low beams/high beams, and they'll turn off about 7 seconds after you turn the car off. This mod brought to you by Videcak from mazda 3 forums.

that looks amazingly simple. I WILL be trying that mod tonight if we're rain free when I get home. thanks!

If I want to do option one which pin do I take inside to the park light switch and

which one goes to an IGN source. Pics if anyone has them. Thanks in adavance

so my jerk of a friend said that the ECU will know this has been done and my warantee would be void. I think he's being an ass and drinking too much hatorade and all, but any truth to this?

Assuming you're talking about the "method one" I talked about earlier

Method one: removes the fog relay in the engine compartment fuse box and connects it to a different spot in the fuse box. You then run a wire through the firewall and tap the wire in the steering column. Result, fogs come on whenever the switch is on, and the ignition is hot.

What you do is remove the relay for the fogs. One of the posts on the relay is connected to the same "extra" spot as is used in the little walkthrough pictured above. Two of them remain connected to the same slots in the fuse box (via extensions), and the fourth is tapped off of a wire in the steering column.

Those are from M3-GT on mazda 3 forums. There's a similar walkthrough over there that does the same thing as this mod, except hides all the wiring under the fuse box. As you can see with this mod it's not as clean as either of the other two methods, but can still be returned to stock relatively easily.

Um, no the ECU won't know you've done anything and you're friend doesn't know what he's talking about. That being said the dealer could void some of your warranty for screwing around with the electrical.

Now that you've done it how do you like it?

Yah, my service writter from the dealer I bought the car at has a yellow 03.5 MSP and is on this board. I sent him a PM with a link to this thread and he OK'ed it. LOL.

So far all is good for the mod.

Well I did this yesterday morning and strangely enough today my fog lights were on when I came home on my bike. The car was off since 5pm and the lights were off when I left on the motorcycle at 5:45. I used the pictured pin under the fog relay and then used one of the 2 switched empty fuses in the front row (speed 3). My advise be paranoid of this route as the car apparently turns that fuse box on and off at will.

Weird, haven't heard of that happening before. Almost makes you want to set up a camera and see if/when/how long it turns itself on.

Mine did this 2 times over the last month so I took the wire out a week ago or 2 and have left it out until I have time/patience to do the other rewire job where I can control them from the switch at will.

Yeah, I followed icspots instructions (post 17) verbatim and it works. I'll post pics as proof later.

so with his mod the lights are always on? i want them to be on when i turn on the little yellow lights (parking lights?) how do u do that?

For this, instructions are in a whole nother thread..

Also to clarify, jam_asian85, my fogs are on when the ignition is in, so always on. About switching them on with parking lights, I don't think you can set it up that way on GT models
