Re-wire Fog Light To The Parking Light.

OK I dont recommend anyone with the GT model to do this, I just went outside to talk on the phone and BAM !!! the fog lights were on, so until I figure out a solution I'm un-doing this mod.

bump...just wanted to say I just did this mod and it worked perfectly fine on my 07 ms3 GT. Put on the lamin-x yellow fogs and it looks great. It goes off a few seconds after you lock the doors. I think if you don't lock the doors, they stay on. But i am paranoid about locking my doors anyways, so no worries.

Did you not notice the disclaimer in the how to (in really big red letters) saying it didn't work on cars with OEM HIDs?

Um, it does work...the how-to on page 2 of this thread. I just did it yesterday, works like a charm.

So to be honest, I followed those steps, thought it worked fine for a while, and then exact same thing as jam_asian85 happened to me. Guess it just doesn't work, undid it because I don't wanna end up being stranded with a dead battery. I thought the "independent fogs" thread was the only mod that didn't apply to OEM HIDs, but yeah...

bumping this...the guys who said their fogs come on with this mod (thats on page 2 I believe), I had it happen to me last night while putting my downpipe on. HOWEVER, I left the doors unlocked while we was working on the car and they just randomly turned on. So I put the key in the ignition, turned the parking lights back on, flipped them off, took the key out the ignition and then locked the doors and they went right off. I think if you don't lock your doors, they have a chance at coming on. You can hear the fuse underneath the hood while they are on and then it makes a clicking noise to turn them off. Just something I observed and might help those who had this problem. Just put the key back in, turned lights on, turned them off, pulled key out and locked thet doors and they turned right off.

Mine did the same thing last year when I did this mod, after about a month they started staying on all the time, so I undid the mod and never looked back. It would do it both at work and at home, randomly. After about a week of randomness, I undid the mod.

I used the method that makes your fogs stay on all the time. The only thing I did differently is run the wire long enough so that it comes in where my optional switch spots are. I hooked it up to a simple ON/OFF switch and now I can control the Fogs with the switch. Took an extra 5 minutes. At first I left the switch messy, but then I put it in there nicely. Will post some pics for people still pondering this mod.

You just run a wire from the + on the fog relay straight to the slot in the front of the fuse box and the lights will be hot whenever the lights are on. What he did was put a switch inline with this wire.

I will put the pics up today give me a bout an hour. But basically just like said above, I did mod that keeps them on all the time, but instead of leaving it in the fuse box... I ran the Line Longer into inside of my car. I used the same hole from my Power wire for my system. I will take a picture of it, but I dont know if thats a stock hole. Anyways, I pulled down the plastic housing where the extra switch spots are. Not all the way, I hate unscrewing and BS, I popped out one of the slots ran the wire to there and put in a switch. Simple on off. no ground needed. When initially put the hole for the switch it was too low, but you can correct that by drilling in the right spot. This entire mod costed less than 15 bucks. Pics are coming. Sit tight. New to the M3 game, but I like to tinker. So the more I do and find the more I will post

^- The extra wire runoff running into the same plastic cover as my Power Wire

^ - Where the wire feeds into my car, same as my power wire. (dont know if this hole is already there) This is right to the left of my brake pedal.

^ - Pop open panel there, and pop out the extra switches

^ - Finished product. Be better than me. Put the damn thing in right side up and drill more towards the middle. It all depends on the switch to. I bout this switch at walmart. Serves its purpose. I am going to eventually get another plastic switch cover and make it look better.

Essentially that its thought.

you just basically made an independent switch to control it? i thought you somehow figured out a way to connect it to our factory switch..
