Hey anyone know what's behind the B-Pillar trim?. I've been hering a muffled rattle- like marbles in the are between the B-Pillar and roof liner. It only really happens when the car is cold. Not sure if the antenna cable runs that way or not.

Any ideas. I didn't see any TSBs on it. Thanks

It's a Mazda, so dont expect to not have some rattles. Every Mazda I have ever owned has had rattles including the RX-8.

I've had other Mazdas and yes they all had rattles, BUT the 3 and our 5 seem to cut from a different cloth. My other Mazdas had rattles from the moment I drove them off the lot. For instance, my 2001 Protege ES had an annoying rattle around the sunroof. However, the 3 (just turned over 20,000 miles) has been as tight as a drum ever since I bought it. In fact it's one of its most pleasant characteristics.

This rattle just started. I'm guessing soemthing came loose or the change in temperature affected a component.

now that you mention it. i hear it too and its driving me nuts. I have been hearing it for a couple of weeks now but i always thourght it was my snowboard rack that was loose. its funny cause it stops as the car warms up. i didnt even think about bringing it up thinking that it was the rack.
anyone else with ideas about this?

i only hear rattles when the temperatures suddenly change or when i crank up the stereo.

I'm going to bring it up at my next service appointment. My dealer has been excellent about dealing with the few sample defects I've had since it was new. Still I love this damned car. I'm notorious for going and test driving new cars and coming away wanting something new. Even the new Jetta GTI and Passat haven't swayed my love for the three.

that could be due to the fact that the new jettas and gti's are turds on wheels.

can't think of what would be up there causing a rattle... have had that area apart and didn't see anything that comes to mind...???

I wonder if it's the seatbelt mechanism rattling and the noise is just being telegraphed through the B-Pillar cavity. Or maybe the adjustable upper anchor or sunroof mechanism?

Oh and JOS3. I don't think the new VW's are crap. I actually like a few things about them. But they don't have the personality of the three.

Mine rattles a bit as well, if i push on the seat belt cover it will stop. It does rattle more with the stereo up
