Rally2003's Build Thread

Those build threads are pointless now since they are so incredibly long and usually way off topic. :(

That is what I found out. Almost any build thread needs links on the 1st page to find specific information or DIY stuff. Otherwise everything gets lost in 100 pages of randomness. Anywho back on topic

Just ordered some 5mm spacers for the rear for when I use my autoX wheels I don't rub on the coilover. I also picked up some headlights so I can start forming my front grill/ADP. I also picked up a AWR 88 passenger side motor mount since mine has been broke for the last 3 years.

Google search de-power steering rack on probe GT or go to probe talk and search there. There is a very good write up there that I used. Super easy too.

I looked at a couple links and a lot of them refer to the Fly'in Miata page. Guess I'll just have to tear it out and see.

Corey you need to make a CF trunk for yourself.

lol. I plan to try to make one that. is one of the reasons why I deleted my wing and shaved the rear emblems off :)

I'll be picking up vinyl off of Evan here too so I can at least make the car look decent until I can get all of the funding/time for the other panel madness.

On a side note I completely de-powered the power steering. I'll be doing a How-To thread after I get the pics off my paretns camera. I was using mainly info from fly'in miata, but are racks and part placements are so different. I took me almost 8hrs from start to finish, but it probably would have went a little faster if I would have done most of the work in the daylight. Working at night is a b****. FYI: you'll need to take off the intake manifold and the rear motor mount to fit the rack through the passenger side wheel well. I'll post of some pics and I'll place a link for the thread on the 1st page of this thread. I like the overall feel of it now. There is a little force need when at a dead stop, but you don't need to man handle the steering wheel to get it to turn. Can barely even tell there is no PS at highway or even city speeds. I'll have to wait and see how she reacts at the next autoX on 9/22. I'll have to play around with the rear tire pressure too to help the car rotate a little easier.

I definitely want consistent feedback on the feel of the new de-powered rack. After you mentioned it a while back I've been reading more and more into it and if it doesn't change steering feel to an outrageous degree I might do it. Better than buying a new PS pump and Mishimoto PS can that I was planning on. And how's the wrap going? Did you pick up Evan's extra that he had?

I forgot to pm him before I met with him last weekend. I will be picking it up though.

List of things to do this weekend if all the parts arrive:
1. Install AWR 88 passenger motor mount
2. Install rear wheel spacers
3. Install new headlamps
4. Clean engine bay

Maybe:
4. Start preparing exterior for vinyl

Installed the AWR 88 motor mount last weenkend. The car vibrates like crazy now, but you get use to it after little while, just as long as you don't put spare change in you ash tray like I use to :) The de-powered power steering is awesome so far. Hardly even know it is gone after tacking it all out. There is a bit more input from the tires and driving surface, but in a good way. I feel more in control when corning faster and it isn't sloppy. The only time you really notice it is at a dead stop, but as soon as you give it some gas it isn't bad at all.

Hopefully I'll find some time this weekend to prep and lay out some vinyl :) Pics to come this weekend for everything that has been updated in the last couple weeks.

i got my engine mount installed more than 2 weeks i believe...

the vibration are getting worse.... it used to only vibrate on my driver side door... now i can hear passenger side vibration and dash vibration

i feel bad nao... really need to get some vibration and sound reduction pad

Wow I've completely neglected this thread. My bad guys. College courses are killing my free time right now. I still need to do a write up on depowering the rack. I've started wrapping the car in satin white vinyl. I picked up some extra front fenders for the car since my one is F'ed up from not coming out of the last fiberglass mold and the other side is rusted pretty bad. At least I'll be able to wrap them for now until I get more money for cf or fiberglass. I might just make them out of thick fiberglass to save with cost for now so I can at least clear the front tire width for next year. The fenders and front bumper will most likely be put off until winter when I have time to take the car panels off without having to move the car back and forth from my parents house and the apt. Someone bust my balls about the depowering write up and pics if I don't get them posted up :)

The Car is now all vinyl wrapped or at least as much as it is going to get vinyl wrapped. I painted the fenders flat black for now and need to paint the bumpers to match so I'll be down to 2 colors. My friends call it a Panda right now, but that is fine since the car is now a Zero ***** Given SMF autox/track car now being that I'm picking up another MSP to daily :) Looking forward to picking it up this Friday and start working on her.

dude you gotta post a pic you cant say it looks like a panda and not show us

I'm uploading pics right now to my flickr account. My bad.
Sounds like you need to post some pictures.....
btw where did you get your wrap from?
I bought the wrap off of Evan, but you can get it off of Amazon.com
Where the heck is my write up!!!! De-power my steering rack!!!!
I got the pictures around on a flash drive somewhere...I just need to upload them and try to remember step by step what I did. That should be fun. I should have just made the tread the next day.

Here is a pic from a couple weeks ago when she was in full Panda mode.

This is the latest pick of her, but I have the wing and side skirts on her too. Ran out of vinyl and probably just going to spay the rear bumper to match the paint becasue I can't see spending $100 for a piece of vinyl just to wrap the rear bumper.

On a side note I took apart my old motor finally after being out of the car for the last year and a half. Spun all the rod bearings and the main bearings weren't too far behind. The block is still good, but the crank and the rods are shot. So I took the head off and that will most likely be going into MSP#2 and I'm trading the block for a crank just in case the bearings and crank are toast in that car too. Hoping to start tinkering with the motor in her here pretty soon. Probably just going to take it all out and put the frankenstein motor with parts from 3 different motors back in since it is just going to be a DD car. Then I'll take that motor apart and hopefully by then I'll have some money for K1 rods and Weisco pistons. Only time will tell.
