And rally drivers are bastards- they want spectators help when they get stuck in a ditch or roll over, but if they run a few of them down, they'll just take off.

What exactly would be the point of sticking around?

There are medical personel at races. The driver most likely radioed to his team that he'd hit people, what else can he do?

Ok, that said, it's still pretty horrific to see, yet we all watched.
