I need your guys help...This will prolly have to be taken to the dealer for this...My car has been sittin for the past 3 months for reasons of the law long story short...DUI!...ok anyways its been sittin so while its been there ive done the fog light mod and TBG mod...So i get in my car sunday to drive it around the block because i cant go on main roads. I do this just to keep the car active and then BOOM the radio just goes blank the lcd display turns off and no sound cant turn it back on and then low and behold it comes back on!!!! Keep on goin then it does the exact same thing...I know its not a fuse because it wouldnt come back on like it does...only once did it come on and i still had my stations programmed then the second time it happend it lost them all and the time.... WTF is up with my radio?

You could have a bad ground going from your HU. Have you tried taking the HU out and making sure the wires are snug in place?

A bad fuse and the thing wouldn't work at all so that isn't the problem.

Do you still have readouts from AC control or your trip computer? I'm not sure where the LCD gets its power from, but I'm guessing it comes through the HU. That is where I would look for the source.

NO i havent taken out the head unit yet to check that out ...my lcd screen in mine only shows time and fm stations...yea and i stil get my trip ometer and milage on the inst cluster but its funny you ask that there also have been times where my trip gauge says 0 when the night before it would read whatever it was that night like ex:135 then next morn it would be 0 and all the stations would be gone but at least the radio would still work...See im also thinkin a loose connection even though i havent touched anything back there.....O the agony!

...

In my 04 3 5 door, my radio had to be replaced b/c it would do the same but just cut out and on like it was all good. Dealer kept saying that nothing was wrong, of course it would never happen when I was at the dealer, and I kept saying "I not here @ 730 in the damn morning for nothing...

Do any of you guys think that this maybe due to the fact that i re-wired my fogs im mean maybe i pulled something loose if the steering column...i have not touched anything else....i just called mazda and my warranty is 4 yr 50,000 and i have 42,000 mi (nailbyt) i gotta get this fixed!!!!

The hell with it. Just take it back for warranty service. Let them check it out and make sure everything is in working order. And have them fix the damn radio...no sweat. Might as well get some use out of your warranty right before its up.

lol i really have no choice to take it like knowledge said i should use my warranty before it runs out....maybe theres a short in the hu itself causing it to do this!!!i Will take it to the dealer and have them look at it and when i get an answer i will let you all know whats the deal was....

ALSO should the lcd show my temp outside? ive never seen it work or even if its supposed to? in an 04 5dr ? standard audio non bose system?

there is an override code you can get to unlock all the features of the lcd screen i can give you the info on how if you want it.....

Have you checked to make sure the hex nut on the battery terminals are tight? I installed a new head unit today and disconnected the battery for it, when I hooked it back up the trip computer was at 0 again. So either its the battery terminals not being tight or you have a bad ground somewhere... The trip computer doesn't have anything to do with the head unit so its probably not either being faulty.

As for the outside temp on your LCD, 04s don't have that. I think its 06 or 07 and up.

Hit the AMB button for outside/ambient temperature for '07 model at least.

If the problem was as far up as the battery you wouldn't get any power and your car wouldn't even start. The problem has to be close to the HU or something else would be effected. Where is the information for the trip saved?

Do you ever get the blank screen and then after driving it comes back on without a restart? If something is not connected right or if a wire has been 'chewed through' it could not be making good contact 100% of the time. The fact that it doesn't happen every time you start the car would suggest something is loose. If you let it sit for a long while outside it is possible to get rodents inside chewing on wires. I have heard of squirrels making nests and chewing up distributors.

I suggest either taking it to the dealer and having them look at it or getting the HU out yourself and make sure everything looks good. It is really easy to get out, you can do it in under 5 minutes. You should check the orange with black stripe wire. That is your constant and what would be bad if you loose presets. If that is fine then it is probablly something wrong with the HU.

Its funny you say this yea it does come on with the car and the just goes off after 5 min of driving and then like nothing happen with no restart it comes back to life....i started it today and messed with the controls tryin to get it to happen and nothing i think its behind the hu myself or something is just wrong with the hu itself..i deff will be taken this to the dealer if it keeps actin up good thing i havent put a loc in yet! I also took the steering column down to see if there might be something causing this in the steering controls but i found nothing all harness pluged in tight and no broken wires...

Well some of you may remember my earlier post of the radio just shutting off by itself and then coming back on well sunday was the kicker this damn thing shut off and has yet to come back on...So now there is a cd stuck in the HU and the interior lights dont come on and the power door locks dont work so now i have to drive the car and lock all the doors manually....i once again checked all fuses for radio, locks, lighter and lights all are good...To make it even better the remote for my door lock wont even unlock the doors...i called the dealer today and the asked me did i check the room fuse? He said it sticks out further than the others...Does anybody know where this is or even heard of it? i still have my warrenty but i have yet to make an appt. so it suck driving for 3 day with no sound so the intake has been my music for the past couple day...hey i had to make due!(drinks)

The fuses for all this stuff are in a panel under the glove box. You have to get down under there and open the cover and swing down the panel.

Well i fixed the problem....If anybody is curious about the so called "room" fuse there is such a demon its under the hood...i checked it out and it was good it was just loose and wasnt making full connection it the fuse slot...I pulled it out and straightend it being it was a lil bent....put er back in and boom interior lights ,radio and door locks all seem to be working fine at this point....i think i may have hit this fuse when i did my independent fog mod...but all is well now....
