radiator flush

Anyone flushed out the coolant system, and a how to thread maybe. I know it's cake but I am all about learning from other peoples experiences if I can.

I've done many, but not recently. You need to be very careful about the antifreeze. Don't let any critters get to even a few drops. Basically, get one of those Prestone (or similar) flush kits. As I recall, you put the "T" fitting into the heater return hose. Engine hot so the t-stat is open and heater control to full. May be early, though. What car, how many miles, etc.?

You should not have to flush the coolant for at least 100,000 miles if the system is working properly. You're opening yourself up to problems fooling with the cooling system early IMO.

Has anyone actually looked to see what the maintenance schedule is for this? Also, a properly flushed and filled cooling system prevents corrosion/clogging/leaking. Just do it at the right time. Many of us will hit the time limit far sooner than the recommended mileage interval. Generally speaking it's 3 to 5 year intervals for properly filled cooling systems in automotive applications. If I had my manual handy I would quote the exact mileage/time. Anyone got the manual handy?

Engine coolant
FL22 type*1:
Replace at first 192,000 km (120,000 miles) or 10 years; after
that, every 96,000 km (60,000 miles) or 5 years

Others:
Replace at first 96,000 km (60,000 miles) or 4 years; after that,
every 2 years

*1 = Use FL22 type coolant in vehicles with the inscription “FL22” on the radiator cap itself or the surrounding
area. Use FL22 when replacing the coolant.

I'm assuming we have the FL22 coolant, but not sure. 120,000 miles or 10 years. Most people won't even own the car anymore when it's time to change it. :)

wow, would have been nice to just get an answer. I am fully aware when I should or shouldnt flush it. (recommended 30k miles) I wanted to see what you guys were doing. Personally if I dont get a how explanation I will end up flushing it the same way I have done so to the 10 cars I have owned. Open the radiator petcock (take it out) let it drain, stick a garden hose in place of the radiator cap , turn the engine on let it run on open water , wait til is nice and clear. add (a 50/50 antifreeze/water mixture) until it comes out the other end and presto. I was trying to avoid making a mess in the driveway.

I just flush my coolant i have 55k on my mazda3. Ive used FL22 buy two bottle cuz one didnt fill it up all the way
