Radar Detectors?

Yep had a Whistler once and although it did save my butt a few times quality was bad. Stopped working once, they recalibrated it then the speaker went out. So I just chucked it.

Next time if I do get a radar detector it'll be an Escort or Valentine with maybe the Phaser. But even with all these things they can still nail you if they pace you or use the stopwatch as acidbbg said.

Best thing is not to overdo the speeding thing. When you do speed, do it on a stretch of roadway you know there aren't ever any cops, like on Route 1&9 coming off the Pulaski Skyway in NJ...

I've got the Escort Passport 8500. It has saved my ass!! I just hate the fact that there is a wire connected to it. I shoulda got the battery powered one!

I wired to the ignition. I tucked the wire behind the dash at the bottom of the windshield, so there is just the short wire coming up to the 8500. I ran the Smart Module wire behind the A Pillar. Very clean. Although in the photo, I was using velcro to hold the Smart Module, it is now mounted with Goop (good for 140 degrees). Works Great!~

So...

...I see a lot of you guys have the Passport 8500. I've been looking at the Valentine One. Besides price, why did you all go with the Escort?

Oh yeah, Escort also just came out with the Cordless Solo S2...

Any thoughts? All input is welcomed. Have a 10 hour drive coming up Labor Day weekend from the ATL to MIA (well, Homestead that is). I made it in 8hrs once. I was following some dude in a Jag who I could see his radar. Finally looked down after about 45mins to a hour & realized we were doing 115mph  . This was 1998 & I had a 96 Ford Contour. Just not trying to another ticket. Got one Jan 02 coming back from the MIA (00 Grand Prix GT Cpe) in Gainesville. As the FL. State Trooper was giving me the ticket he said, "Anyone tell you, you look like Cedric The Entertainer?" I said "No", but was thinking "Don't crack jokes & give me a ticket." Well that was the clean version...

Again, thanks in advance for the input...

There is an Escort SRX on Ebay right now. Buy it now feature: $698.75!!! I think I'll get the 8500...

The SRX is nice, definily my only choice.
The down side of the 8500 is even though they can't detect ti thay can see it.
An SR7 or SRX on the other hand can't be ditected or easily seen.

Cool...

So It looks like I'm getting a Escor. Now to decide which one. Between the 8500 & the Cordless Solo S2. Anyone have the Solo2? I don't like cords, but want the best possible one...

Install the 8500 up high by the sun visor and run the hard wire kit that can be run under the roof liner and down the A pillar. That way no hanging cables and no battery BS plus its harder for the cops to see.

Thanks for the info 1st MP3...

Guess what I found I read the site info instead of just the new SCC issue. Got more info from the site (Go figure! Working OT kinda (yawn) ) But the Cordless Solo S2, has a battery monitoring system AND can be hard wired. I think I found my baby.

I was seriously considering the Valentine One... Thanks for the info guys. Between this thread & the other threads. I didn't make a expensive mistake.

BUT any further info will be appreciated. Thanks all...
Charles or Chuck take your pick...

Exactly how I have mine installed. I also have aftermarket glass in the front with a built in shade that makes it very hard to see the detector from outside the car without pressing your nose to the glass.

Do you think it would be possible to mount my 8500 up there? I have a banner across the top of my windshield. I know it'll still pick up radar frequencies, but what about lasers? I can, however see the sun through the sticker, but it looks like a dim moon.

If you get tagged with lazer your already screwed!
By the time you know your hit the cop knows your speed, the only way to aviod this is the ZR3 lazer shifter that can be added to the 8500. I would still try to give th eunit the best unhindered view of the road you possibly can.

Kthey would know if they were half intelligent but they couldn't prove a damn thing

I have a cheap 120 Cobra.... So far it saved me two times, one time i was doing 40 in a 25, the other time i was about to fly around a turn, but it picked up a cop.... The important thing is to not get too cocky just because you have a radar dector... They only dectect radar, not cops... I'v past more cops than my scanner has pickedup.
