Radar Detector Install

I just traded in my Nissan 350Z for a new MS 3. Some folks might think I am a bit nuts but due to a pending divorce, the 350, while fun, wasn't meeting my needs. I do a lot of bike races and well, not much room for a bike rack on the 350.

One thing I miss is my custom radar install I had in my old car. My friend manufactured a block of aluminum into a mount that glued onto the mirror. It had a built in pivoting mount that allowed the detector to sit level no matter how I positioned the mirror. The machined diameter of the mount doesn't quite match the new homelink mirror I am having installed today, so I'll have to fix that which is easy. The harder part is...how to wire it up!

I am planning on using a fuse tapper that I guess I can buy at Autozone...then wiring in an in line fuse...then...I dunno. Is it safe to run the wire up the side pillar on the pax side where the airbag is? I am leery of messing with that. Once I get to the top of the windshield...piece of cake I think. And on the pax side, is there a convenient place near the fuse box that I can wire to ground?

I have looked through a lot of threads and looks like guys here are really smart and know what they're talking about...any help would be appreciated! And I'll post a pic of the mount once it is in place. I'm supposed to pick up my car tomorrow...will be gluing the mount on tomorrow night then wiring this weekend probably. Thanks!

I wired mine into the same place as the homelink mirror: under the front left kick panel. It's easy to get to, remove sill plate, then pull button on kick panel and the panel comes off. The ground is obvious. The homelink hooks into unswitched power and switched. You can connect to the same switched wire.

I was in Pep Boys the other day and saw a "Circuit Adder" device. Essentially plugs into the fuse boxl, allows you to tap off of an existing fused circuit. Ran the wire up the door seal, across the head liner and now is ready to go! I have to drill the aluminum mount to match the diameter of the homelink mirror (the mirror on my old car had a slightly different diameter).
