Radar Detector Hardwire mount

For those you with hardwired radar detectors, where did you mount yours, mine is mounted above the rear view mirror.

Today while coming into work a cop laser'ed me and my passport 8500 didnt go off. He hit me from the rear. I need to move it but would like to know where everyone else stands.

I have mine in the same place but mine is a Valentine One. It has front and rear detectors.

But I don't think moving it will help. If you are alerted that you have been lasered, it is too late. The only hope with Laser dectection is that they hit the car in front of you and you pickup the beam.

Not sure about the US, but here in Canada I found out some neat 'laws' about how they are supposed to use radar detection.
They MUST get a 0 reding from the ground twice, and they have to have similar (not sure the exact numbers) readings from hitting you twice. Never knew this, since I was "told" i was clocked at 130 even though I know I was going MUCH faster.. but i just payed the ticket since I had 87 horse shoes up my bum. But when I looked into it and talked to the right people, that is the procedure they HAVE to do... Hit the ground and get a 0 reading, hit you and get a reading, hit the ground again, then hit you again within a tolerance limit... so, basically, if your detector goesoff once,,,, slow down.. you might get a away with it.. and ALWAYS ask to see the reading on their detector.. you will be suprised how many times tehre is nothing there and they are giving youa ticket on purely assumption.. knowing that most people are scared to ask or if you were going fast in the first place you will not argue... like i did.. :)

lol your detector won't detect s*** up there, you have to have it as close to the hood (not being blocked by wipers) in the dead middle, look at your radar detector instructions, cops will laser you on your bumper, the only way your dector is going to pick up something is if the beam bounces off your hood and into the sensor, lasers don't spread very much so you need to minimize the detection area

Well, the p5 doesn't come standard with a tint strip, and my car doesn't have one. Would it be best for a p5 without strip to mount it above the rearview? If you're hit by laser, you're basically screwed if you dont have the shifter, soI dont really see the point of mounting it lower, and higher should be better for ka detection. Also, I think the radar is harder for cops to see if it's mounted up above the mirror.

Any Ideas?

I have mine mounted above the rear view mirror and never had any issues. I have a Valentine 1 and if I mounted it lower the rear detector would be blocked.

I have picked up laser, X, K, KA and never had a ticket yet.

honestly i tested it with one of those boxes and mines dead center and i get radar so much farther away then when it was higher. radar shoots wide not high. that gys v1 would reforme better at a lower hieght.

As for uselessness of mounting radar up high for lasers...if you get hit by laser and you can detect it...its too late anyways. The main purpose of mounting your radar high is getting longer range for the K and KA bands which most of the US is still using. So no matter if you mount the radar high or low, once you pick up laser its too late.

I have my cheapo-model mounted above my rearview mirror.

Most the cops here use radar bands, but I have seen some using Lasers with scopes (They can hit you between 1/4 and 1/2 a mile away)

But I want something better, are there any detectors with a seperate rear laser reader?
You know, something you can mount in the rear of your car?

look up k40, they make laser scramblers and good radar.

topics been discussed so mant time and radar dectors are dont do half as good that high.
