Race Fuel??

I want to try some "Trick Racing Fuel" on my MS3, but am worried about causing any damage. They sell 102, 110 and 126 here in WA. I am running stock boost, stock plugs MS CAI and MS CBE. Anything I should worry about if I try the 110 or 126 octane?

probably wont hurt anything, but it also won't help anything unless you run through 3-4 tanks of it

the learning ecu (since all is factory) takes is slow to adjust the timing

with race fuel, the biggest benefit is you can run extra boost and/or more advanced timing. The ecu is very very slow when adding timing to protect the motor. There was a test done in one magazine that showed how long it took for a car to see the benefit of race fuel over pump gas.

The nice thing about EMS is you can switch maps to immediately take advantage of the extra potential

i thought our ecu where not learning ecus, that they ajust fuel/timeing on the fly?. Plus I can definatly tell when i put that non-streetlegal octane boost in my car, not my imagination..

LOL. If your running stock boost dont bother. If you wanna turn the boost up to around 22psi then throw in. Id recommend just running 110. Id just throw 5 gallons in on top of a half tank of 91-93. All its gonna do is prevent detonation. Have fun.

Stick with unleaded fuel. VP has a 105oct UL and I think Sunoco has a 110oct UL. Unless you're going to up the boost or alter the tuning, there's no sense in buying any. You will not get a performance advantage from just filling up your tank with higher octane fuel.

our ECUs do learn (adaptive technology) and they can adjust on the fly up to a certain parameter. With higher octane, it is possible for that parameter to be adjusted, but it takes its time to do so, that way it doesn't damage anything

Exactly it takes time. One tank of race fuel will buy a manual boost controller. Which one is a better investment?

I also would not be surprised if Mazda has set a ceiling on timing advance under boosted conditions as you've hinted.

yeah that makes sense about the ecu, but I can tell the difference by putting Lucas octane boost frm autozone, try it its no a placebo affect. Luca octane boost, its like 10 bucks but it gives an extra kick fro sure!

Dont listen to anyone that tells you not to run leaded gas. Just put some sunoco 110 in there and go have some fun with higher boost. Unless you run tank after tank of it you will never have a problem with the o2 sensor. A little lead is actually good for the motor. Helps to seal valves and such. Take it from someone who has been running it in his cars for over 10years. s*** works great. Most people are internet racers and their opinion is worthless. Dont run anything higher than 110 though. Car doesnt run hot enough to burn it.

ps. No need to reset the ecu and all that bulls***. Dump it in the tank and turn the boost up. People make this out to be more than it is. I lol at this.

Yea, I'm gonna try it, but I don't have a boost controller. Maybe i'll do a SW dyno to see what is gained.

which is why I said theres little to gain except for longterm (referring only to the OP with his particular setup)

Leaded gas wont affect the the precat if mixed. You can get 103 octane unleaded and even 110 unleaded. I dont recommend running leaded gas without the 2nd cat ( test pipe ) removed. It will do a number on your O2 sensors before damaging the cat. If you run higher boost, you will get the security of having octane to support it. Otherwise its just a waste. You could also consider running a methanol kit.

Leaded gas and catalytic converters don't mix. Oh wait, I'm just an internet racer...

Like I said before, a few times here and there will do nothing to the cat. Trust me, Ive done it many many times.

I tried the 102 (it's actually 101) today. I can definitely tell the difference. It pulls a little harder especially above 4500 RPMs. By the way, the 101 they sell here is Unleaded, but costs $6.25 a gal.(hand)(hump)
