Quiet Exhaust

Yea. and FSDE is the name of out more. The msp is the FSDET meaning turbo.

And I didn't mean on the dyno. I meant from the motor.

New to some terminology here.

What does FSDE and N/A mean?
Is N/A natural aspiration?
lol sorry abt that. Yeah, NA is Naturally aspirated, as opposed to forced induction. The FS-DE is the engine our cars have.

And FS means for sale :p

Eh, I still think that's generous. Different types of dynos test things differently. And if I'm a company makin engine mods, I know I'd find the most generous dyno I could find.

Granted, I'm not saying it doesn't help. I love it, and I the butt dyno reads stronger in the mid-range, but I don't think peak is up a whole helluva lot

naw, CAI and SRI are 1-2 tops for the protege. Need dyno posts of that, but the RB exhaust was noticeable power grains over the intake for me. Butthe biggest gain is the header. Removing the 1st cat gives a lot more power than any intake or exhaust.

I'd go w/ Apexi, they make two quiet universal mufflers-The N1 and the WS2.I mean,w/ the WS2,very quiet idle, gets a little loud during acceleration but then sound levels drop as speed increases.I mean, all you basically hear is the engine.Plus,it looks very clean.

There are two catalytic converters on the P5? How involved is it to remove the 1st catalytic converter? As well once it is removed how much extra noise is generated? Does removing the cat require new headers?

yeah, most headers delete the 1st cat. It's more of a "pre cat," and removing it won't make TOO much noise if you retain the 2nd one.

removing the 1st cat is easy. Removing the bolts holding the exhaust manifolder to the head, then the 2 down below, and I think 3 other bolts, then the whole section pulls out, and then you install the new header.

i made 107 hp when i had a meagan header and exhaust, and aem short ram intake,
but if u get a meagan it would be louder when u have header's on it. right now it's on my car with just the catback and stock everything and it's very quiet.

Alright, cool. Thanks for the info guys. Any headers you recommend to go with the racing beat exhaust?

I have a Ractive header. They are now near impossible to find. There are the OBX headers that are more readily available. AWR makes a header too, and Street Unit has 1 left. Tsudo is on ebay. In fact. chefchris has his that was only used for 1 day. He ran into engine issues, and took it off. It is like new, and I am sure he will give you a good deal. PM him if interested in that one.

As with all headers, you need a CEL trick, something for the 2nd o2 sensor to fool the ECU to thinking it has a stock header and cat. Look up the non-fouler trick in the how-to. It is the easiest to do, and does not require cutting of wires.

Question since I'm not all that experience with exhaust systems. If I install new headers, which removes the first cat, that only leaves the second cat. I know about the CEL fix, but if i follow up by installing a new cat back is there any cat at all? I was under the impression that with new headers and exhaust there would be neither cat and i'd have to have one welded in-line into my exhaust to avoid failing inspection. Am I on the right track here or am I missing something obvious.

The header removes the 1st cat. Then after that is the 2nd cat. The cat-back exhaust starts after that.

If you have an inspection, then a header is not an option to pass smog. You will need to remove it and put in the stock header and cat for it to pass inspection.

How often is inspection? It might be worth it for the 2 hours it takes for a swap. Just get high grade nuts and bolts that won't rust.
