I ordered new 17x7" rims Weds, and the guy just contacted me this morning and said that they didn't have a 48mm offset (like he originially told me), and only a 45.

So on a 17x7 45mm offset, I want to run 215/40/17's. Is this OK? Will I get rub? If not, will I be CLOSE to rub? What if I have a bunch of fat kids in the back? LMK, ASAP so I can order them and have them shipped today!!!

Are you lowered at all. If you're not lowered then 215/40/17 on 17x7 should fit with no problem.

Where did you order them from? Any reputable place should know if they're gonna rub or not. I know Rishie should know, and Tirerack could tell you. Not sure if they wanna deal with ya if you don't order from them though. :)
I would say you shouldn't have a rubbing problem. I was told we are good to a 42 offset, and I am thinking that an extra 5mm on each side should be pretty close to clear being only 3 off from that.
Good luck. That's about all I know.

Not lowered, but may eventually be .5" or so. The main thing is the OFFSET of 45 compared to our stock 55. Will this hurt performance or rub or anything bad?

The 215\40\ZR17's fit my car fine, with my coil-overs. My voil-overs gives my car a good drop. I think it is about 1 and a half inch drop.:D :D

I spoke to Wheelguru (Sean) at Automotive R&D today and I was asking him if I'd rub with 215/40 17's. He told me that if you're planning on keeping your car at stock height you can use either 215/40 or 215/45. Once you lower your car however, you will rub with anything 215 or higher, unless you roll your fenders. This is came from a guy who has tested a bung load of combinations on his MP3 and they have also tested a lot of set ups on a P5 aswell. We both agree that on an MP3 with a mild drop (.75 to 1 inch), you might be ok with 215/40 depending on how stiff your spring rates are and what offset your aftermarket wheels might be.

Now, considering you're using a slightly lower offset (45 versus stock 48) you might have a problem if you drop. However, the above mentions that with a .75 to 1 inch drop you might rub with that size tire, so if you drop .5 you may squeeze it in there without a problem.

What RIMS do you have? the OFFSET in combo with the wider tires is my main concern.

Offset

I'm sure you shouldn't have a problem. I've got 18 x 7.5's with a 42mm offset and 215/35's on my car and it just barely rubbed a tiny bit. I filed the lip a bit and touched it up with some paint and it's perfect. You're talking 45mm and 17's. No Problem!!
