Questions

Mazda, Mazda 3 HB
Just bought a used 2006 Mazda 3 HB and are looking for some answers to some concerns that I have. First of all, lets just say that the car runs great for having 105,000 mile on the thing. Alignment is Definatley needed(steering wheel shakes so bad when going over 50). Is it a going to cost me more problem down the road? The guy that I had bought it from did not have any past maintance records, but he did mention the new paint job (btw, no accidents), I am wanting to put some performance into this thing. Borla Exhaust and some kind of intake to start with. With the milage being my concerned with putting performance on it, Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Jesi

Didn't you test drive it before you purchased? It's more than just your alignment. Hopefully its as little as needing a good balancing... Maybe he just threw some wheels on before he sold it to you without getting them balanced... But it could be more than that.

As far as performance, look under engine transmission and drivetrain and there is some good advice on staged power mods. I would start off with making sure you get a new air filter, a good synthetic oil change, new iridium spark plugs, new battery, things like that. Also check your pads and rotors. and struts. but they'll do all that with the balancing that you need first! then start with the mods.

The funny thing about the alignment and tires...I test drove it yes and drove up to 85 on a road and had no problem with shaking....then a week later I went to give him the cash(mind you he wanted 8500 for the damn thing) I had to talk him down to (6500) I drove it on the highway and sure enough the car felt alot different. Either he hit a big pot hole or he did as you suggested just threew tires on the car, but they are the same tires that were on there when I firt test drove it and also when I bought the car. I know new tires will have to be soon. and they are wore inevenlly so I know it is an alighnment. New air filter has already been taking care of, as well as synthetic oil. will look into the spark plugs and others you suggested. Its gonna just need a tune up all together. Thanks for the advice.
