Questions about straight pipes m6

After assessing my financial situation I decided that a CAI and a cat back exhaust system wouldn't be an option on my part time paychecks so I was told that converting to straight piping would give me the nice deep sound I want without the price of a full system.

After watching some vids etc, this option seems like something I might be interested in...

Would I take my car to an exhaust shop to do this? For how much [ballpark] would they charge? And whats a good size/brand for some exhaust tips?

Might you be confusing with eliminating the 2nd catalytic converter with a test pipe? It tends to give a slight rumble, with a little bit deeper sound and more power. And it's not very expensive ($120 or so for a stainless pipe).

Possibly, I'm new to the modding community and advanced stuff please excuse my ignorance :D

But for instance I would like something sounding similar to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcd4UnU8BiI

I'm not sure if you can tell whats going on in his setup but any info you can shed on me would be greatly appriciated.

If you do just straight pipes your car will have the classic bumble bee sound. Remember, it's still a 4 cylinder and doesn't have a good exhaust note on it's own. But if you like the ricer fart sound then go for it.

I was kinda thinking the same thing as cf0x, and was wanting to find a cheaper method to get power and sound without the high price of even a catback.
So my theory is that getting a test pipe and new mufflers would do the trick right? Because, correct me if i am wrong, but the test pipe would give you the power and the mufflers would give you the sound.

Try just a test pipe first. The test pipe will free up horsepower that the 2nd cat is robbing from you. It will also give a slightly lower, less 'refined' exhaust tone. At $120, I'd try that first. It's a super-easy install and you'll probably be very happy with the difference. Especially for the price.

Ya, it will be a must buy (unless I get a TBE) but I just wanted someone to clarify that a CBE doesn't give you anything more than about 3 or 4HP and sound, whereas a test pipe can give you the more significant gains.

You may see a little more HP gain than that, but from what I understand and the way it sounds/feels the MS6 stock exhaust is not that restrictive past the 2nd cat. Make sure you keep the catalytic converter though. You will likely not pass emissions without it.

same here. i have an SLS test pipe ($60 ebay) and i love it. now i want more growl, but since im not looking at any gains (less downtube) by going catback, should i just get mufflers? what if i added a downtube later to my muffler/test pipe setup?

lol dude do you have a 07 mazdaspeed 6 or 07 mazda 6
cuz they make 07 mazda6 2.3

but if you have ms6 then it should fit u if not then idk and dont think it would fit mazda 6 but i could be wrong

are test pipes self installable without welding?

im looking at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Test...15bQQitemZ110353658203QQptZRaceQ5fCarQ5fParts

would it fit in my 07 m6 2.3i?

I don't know this for certain, but I would have to guess that the linked ebay item will not work for your car. You should talk to Ken from Protege Garage to see if he has anything that can help you out.

I don't even really know if the Mazda 6 2.3L w/o turbo has a 2nd catalytic converter. I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about a Mazdaspeed 6.
