I don't regret not get the 5 speed because I live in New York City the traffic here is ridiculous.

hehe it doesn't have enough power, lucky it handles so well.
I'd do anything for 170 like the Famila! Hmmm could get a wreck FS-JZ engine for 1,700 Hmmm. hehe

can you start your car off as normal "auto" and only shift to sportmatic when you are in 3rd / 4th gear ?

Yes you can go back and forth when ever you want.
Start in auto, then swap to sport at any gear.

can anyone confirm that the sportmatic mode shifts up once you hit the rev limiter? I don't think it should though, my car is still under 500 miles so I don't want to go WOT yet.

I hit once the red zone, because I forgot I was in "manual mode" :o

nothing happen.

I think the sportshift of our P5 are some kind of "stoopid proof".
Correct me if I'm wrong, the car wont upshift automaticaly, but will downshift automatically.

All:

I live in the Chicagoland area. Traffic sucks here. I too have a 2002.5 sport shift. It's the most practical car I have owned, next to my family vehicles (MPV Minivan, and before Acura TL, and before VW Golf (that sucked!)). My prior vehicles to my P5 was a 01 Integra Type R, a 99 Integra GS-R, a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP(got rid of after 4 months), 97 Civic EX Coupe, 95 Eclipse GSX, 93 Camaro V6. All the cars from the Eclipse up until my P5 (not including the Grand Prix GTP) were stick. I spent an ungodly amount of money on each (about $10K each in mods), and in all my experiences, the P5 (even with sport shift) I feel is my best investment. Sure, I am going to Turbo this. I really do miss my Type-R for performance, but everything else (not practical and can get ripped off, etc.) is wonderful! I figure after I turbo this car, and do a little suspension work, I will be to where I was a year ago driving my Type-R but as to a similiar "practical" sleeper that will eat Subi's like crazy! What sucked was I had a Fidanza flywheel and ACT Extreme track clutch and pushing down on that puppy in rush hour traffic really bit. It got so bad that I literally bruised the buttom of my left foot. Ahhh, well, I'm saving a lot of money and pretty darn happy - just need a Turbo and I'll be set. No big investments here = same results as in the past.

It has never upshifted on me in manual mode (i too forgot i had it in manual mode when i was getting on the highway), but it does downshift automatically to 1st gear when you stop. btw... from a dead stop, you can also bump it to 2nd gear before you start but you cannot start in 3rd or 4th gear (not that i would want to, just saying that the ss transmission prevents it).
