Question on brake caliper slider pin

I replaced the front rotors and brake pads on my 2008 GT. When reinstalling the lower caliper slide pin i noticed the rubber plug on the opposite side began to expand and partially started coming out. My fear is it will come all the way out so i stopped tightening the bolt. Anyone have this issue and what did you do to resolve it? I'm pretty sure I'm using the correct bolt which is the thinner one and I'm using the other front wheel as reference. Would like to wrap this up today so any help would be appreciated.

Just wanted to share what I found out. The plug is connected to a rubber sleeve that runs through the caliper out the other side where it's attached to the accordian looking dust boot that protects the slider bolts from getting brake dust. The sleeve inside the caliper got twisted and and I had to pull almost stretch the side where it's accordian like so that I could you see which way to unwind. Once I did that, the slider pin went in with out a problem. Just thought I'd share in case it happens to someone else.
