Question for the PA Guys/Girls

Only on cars without OBD II. The might have a computer for the OBD I cars but I wouldn't know.

If you guys were really clever... All the emissions test does is make sure your emissions equipment works, according to the ECU. Find out what voltage is required to send back to the ECU from each component before being modified. Then if you can provide the same signal back (just long enough to get it stored in the ECU) you'll always pass. No idea if you'd have problems running the engine with screwy ECU signals, but you could pass without taking your car apart every year.

Well, wouldn't the o2 fix (MIL Elim or non-fouler fix) work as long as it kept the car from throwing a CEL? I've been running with a Ractive header with the Subie (NF) fix for about three weeks now with no problems other than an exhaust leak at the mid-pipe. No CEL or anything. So I'm assuming, aside from the fact my mechanic is a family friend, that I'd be fine according to a diagnostic.

I believe that if you were to fail emissions the ECU would throw a CEL before you went because of the faulty component. With the header CEL eliminator you trick the computer into thinking the first cat is there by reducing the voltage seen at the second O2 sensor.

That is exactly what I was talking about. However, the visual inspection would fail you because you need 2 cats. Luckily, if you get a new midpipe, you can put 2 cats on it because the law doesn't specify that the cats have to be in the original location.

Eh, I'll just see what **** the family mechanic says. Or sees. Or doesn't see. hehe.

What's the penalty for expired inspection stickers? I figure it's cheaper just to pay the fine on the rare occasion that you get pulled over.

$263 back in 1998 (don't ask)
