Question for the ignition guru's

I need to know what the factory dwell setting on the coils is for the factory mazdaspeed ecu.

And also if anyone knows the pinout for the 3 pin connector at each of the coils.

Reason is I'm doing some research on a Coil On Plug conversion that the Miata guys have been doing and our ignition coils are very similar to theirs.

quick questions :

XoX1de- are you using currently COP's ? if so what brand and what ignitors are you running them with ?

duffbuster243 - you plan on letting the stock ECU control COP's ? if so it won't work , you'll need a stand alone , and if you don't mind what COP's you plan on using ?

A bunch of guys on Miata forums are running them on stock ecu's. Thats how I got the idea. I've been doing some research and they have almost the exact same coil setup as the 1.8 fp engine.

here is a 99 miata coil http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/g...rl=http://info.rockauto.com/Airtex/5C1204.jpg

and a 99 fpde coil which is plug and play on msp's http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/g...rl=http://info.rockauto.com/Airtex/5C1207.jpg

only difference is the miata has a four pin plug and the protege has a 3 pin plug. What I found out is the miata gets a tach signal from the coil (the extra pin) where as the protege does not.

I'm going to be headed to a local pull it yard the end of this week which has some late model Toyotas. I'll keep this post updated on my findings.

My biggest concern is whether the C-O-Ps are going to be long enough to reach the plugs on a FSDE. Good thing there are plenty of FSDE's in the JY also to verify.
