Question...Clutch & flywheel

Ok, so... My turbo kit and Draxas exhaust is on the way; I keep hearing that I should change my clutch AND flywheel. I'm not very mechanically inclined , other than the average common knowledge for enthusiasts, so what I'd like to know is the actual benefit of adding these items when I do the kit. I just found some very good prices for the MS sport clutch and flywheel ($585.00 for both) and I'm very tempted to order them but if the benefit is not really much then I'll just wait untill the OEM clutch goes.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge w/ me. ;-)

with the hiboost hp and tq you will see your clutch go quicker... and if you are going to change out the clutch mine as well do the flywheel for a lighter one.... you could order it now with that sweet price and then just install it when the old one goes... but you will need some beefier hardware sooner then later...(i believe juan is still runnin the oem clutch so it may last a while... but i doubt that price willl.....)

Cool... I do realize the price is mighty good. Even with the S & H of $50.00 to PR. So I will most likely order it and leave it around untill it's time to change it. BUt I'm still not sure if it improves performance per se, or better yet, how it does. I do realize it will last me longer than the OEM clutch being able to handle more power I guess.

i have the MS clutch, be aware it does not come with the throw-out bearing, if you put in the new clutch you should replace the throw-out bearing. But i'm waiting till the end of the month to swap.(thats the next time i will have acess to a lift) If you have the turbo kit i would go with SR motorsports heavy duty clutch and flywheel package($835) but thats just my opinion.

I'm sure the SR Motorsport package is probably a better one but considering the amount of $$$ I just spent on turbo kit and exhaust (with a student loan!) it's a bit steep for me right now. :)

I looked at that package for a while but have heard nothing but bad feedback from people. Everyone uses the term "overpriced garbage". I dont have personal experience with the company, but before a purchase I would talk to someone who does.

I do wonder about the quality of the SRMS package since I've never heard anything about them...

BUT... My qustion is still not answered. Deciding on a clutch and else will come soon...right now I just wanted to get a bit of knowledge on the stuff I asked ^^^above. (What r the true benefits? HP? quicker rx? Is the clutch going to be smoother to press or harder? Etc...

Please do not take this the wrong way..I DO apreciate all the suggestions and comments. :)

Basically installing a new clutch will help firm up clutch feel and it will be able to take the increase in hp and tq alot better than your stock clutch. installing a new flywheel is basically just an acceleration mod and it doesn't really increase your hp.

Thank you!

So essentially it is a matter of it handling more power in a better way(longer lasting), and have a "tighter" feel to it as far as reaction...?

Yes, it will have a stiffer/tighter feel and last longer. However, I talked to Juan and he said he is still running the stock clutch. He has pushed it REALLY hard too, running anywhere from 7-12 psi, doing quarter mile in 12.9 at 12 psi (probably SEVERAL DOZEN runs), so you get the point. And he says the stock clutch is still holding strong. So, having heard this, my plan is to get the hiboost kit FIRST, clutch/flywheel later (also want to wait for fidanza)

That is a very good point!!! And I'm sure he has driven the h (thumb) ell out of that car.
Well...with that being said...My choice is made! I will wait untill I need a clucth!

Lets make a list of who wants the fidanza flywheel if we can get 10 people they will make it.

by reducing the weight of the flywheel your engine has to work a lot less to get the power to the wheels, yes you will notice a lot more rev "happy" feel to the engine but you will have an hp gain (at the wheels) due to the less rotating mass between engine and wheels.... and by upgrading your clutch you will not see any power gains there it is strictly in the holding power of the clutch and as some said you will want to get a throw out bearing if it isn't with the set up you get....

^^^ Thank you!!! That's what I was wondering about. So I guess, essentially, I'm ok with the stock clutch for now but should upgrade as soon as I can. Cool....
Thanks!
