question about extended warranty on MS3

:
2003 Mazdaspeed Protege NR2052
When I bought my Mazda Protege5 in 2003 they offered me an extended warranty througha warranty company that was 1500 dollars. It was for five years or till 100000 miles.
My question is has anyone who purchased a MS3 been offered something similiar?
If yes then this would really help pursuade the wife!
Thanks for your replies.

most dealerships, if not all, will offer an extended warranty. ASK YOUR DEALERSHIP. Everyone has different companies and policies relating to extended warranties that would not apply necessarily in your case.

The fact that it is an MS3 has nothing to do with whether or not an extended warranty will be offered.

I was offered an extended warranty for my MS3 for $1900. It is from Mazda and covers to 7 years and 100,000 miles. It is pretty complete coverage, even covering road hazards on wheels and tires.

I said I would have to think about it, then he offered a special additional deal where if I never make a claim in seven years they give me all the money back (no interest of course). This makes for an interesting delemma a few years down the road if you have a covered item that costs maybe $800, do you make the claim or hope you don't have another and get your "garantee" money back.

Anyway, I didn't buy it, I think in general extended warranties are not a good deal, although it can give peace of mind to a nervous spouse.

most of the extended warranties offered are not really from mazda, but an aftermarket warranty company. most of those companies will fight after your factory warranty is up to do things like;

1) not pay for work
2) not fully pay for work
3) put aftermarket parts into your car versus factory parts

my experience working at a mazda dealer is that extended warranties are a pain in the ass to deal from both a consumer and retail perspective. i will never buy one. just my .02

Don't do it. The finance manager tried to scare me into buying it and even dropped the price down to $1590. I made this same mistake with my last VW. Fortunately, I'm getting a refund of $500 or so. But I still wasted $1,000 on something I didn't use.

I figured the chances of me actually keeping this car for 3 years is somewhat slim, so I decided to take a chance. But WTF is Mazda thinking with this s*** warranty they offer on new cars?????

Extended warranties are big money for the manufacturers. Selling them is interesting because after convincing you how wonderful and reliable this new car is you are buying, they then try to convince you it is unreliable and expensive to fix to sell you the EW. The amount of room they have to play with deals is evidence of how much money they make for the dealer and manufacturer, and how bad a deal it is for you.

Now, to speak out of the other side of my mouth, I bought the EW for my Mercedes and it was a correct decision because the POS really is unreliable and expensive to fix. I am also hoping the remaining part will help me sell it to the next "lucky owner". YMMV.
